Weather: Lots of sunshine and variable winds with temp hitting a high of 20C. Raptor Observations: Observers were only on site for a couple of hours today and had 539 birds. The bulk were TVs (370) along with Bald Eagle (3), N. Harriers (8), Sharpies (101), Cooper's Hawks (4), Red-shouldered (17), a late Broadwing, Redtail (28), Am. Kestrel (6) and a single Peregrine. Non-raptor Observations: Despite the scarcity of raptor activity at the observation knoll today, there was plenty of dickie bird action to keep folks entertained, with good numbers of most of the species observed. These included Canada Goose, Ring-billed and Herring Gull, Black-capped Chickadee, Blue Jay, Cedar Waxwing, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Golden-crowned Kinglet, White-breasted Nuthatch, Downy Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Song Sparrow, White-throated Sparrow. Eastern Bluebirds were seen flying back and forth across the field, while Northern Cardinal, Orange-crowned Warbler and Gray Catbird were found in the dogwood bushes between Sharpie Alley and the ravine. North of Dexter Line at the B&B were European Starlings, Killdeer and an Eastern Meadowlark. Blue Jay count: 550 A few more monarch butterflies flew west today plus black saddlebags and a few green darners were still obviously migrating. With chillier weather on the way next week, this weekend will probably bring the last of this year's migratory insects. Predictions: Pretty much the same weather for the entire weekend so the flights will likely be similar to today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown (thebro...@ezlink.on.ca) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
