Juvenile lark sparrow found by myself and Adam caparelli at ward's island
toronto island same location as recent nelsons sparriw sighting, during the TOC
walk. Seen by all. Very ratty plummage but prominent white on the ends of the
outter tail feathers when in flight.

Toronto island can be accessed by frequent ferries.

[Ontbirds] Lark Sparrow Toronto continues

2017-01-26 Thread Mark Cranford via ONTBIRDS

I relocated the Lark Sparrow yesterday at 3:45 pm just as I was about to give
up. It was inside a shrub along the east-west fence beside a pile of discarded
industrial rubber. It took about 30 minutes of searching in a small area. I
did not inspect it but there appears to be a functioning tent about 50 feet
east of the bird.

From the southbound Don Valley Parkway, exit (left) to the Lakeshore and
continue past the traffic light one block to park on Villiers. Walk back to
the Lakeshore, crossing to the north side and just beyond to the trail on the
north side of the railway tracks. Walk east about 200m.

The Lark Sparrow was easily seen coming into seed placed on a mound just west
of the first two first gulf trailers along the gravel path. Nice bird in a
strange location. An easy tick although someone has taken up residence in a
tent about 50 feet away.

[Ontbirds] Lark Sparrow, Toronto

2016-12-14 Thread Nicole Richardson
Hello everyone,

The Lark Sparrow is still braving the cold here in Toronto. It was foraging on
the pavement on the opposite side of the fence from the pathway, near a red
shed.

We parked on Villiers, and walked north just past Lakeshore. The pathway the
bird has been seen along is just right of the Don Roadway, along the north side
of the train tracks.

Good birding,

Nicole and Billi

Despite the heavy snowfall the Lark Sparrow continues at the foot of the Don
Valley Parkway. Today it was harder to find as it spent most of its time
concealed behind a large snow drift. It was foraging in the dried weeds near
the yellow and red fire hydrant that is blocked off by rusted yellow pipes in
the southeast corner of the First Gulf / old Lever 2000 lands.

Hello,

west of a First Gulf Trailer in the lot behind, near the blue polka dotted poll
(the third or fourth counting from the west)

Took 45 and 5 observers but just re-found it. Bird is on a private gravel
roadway inside a barbed fenced off industrial property. Well viewed from
railbed access on north side of Lakeshore. This is about 250m east of Don
Roadway.

No need to trespass!

Phone died in cold!

Andrew Keaveney just refound the Lark Sparrow. Best to park on Villiers south
of Lake Shore off Don Roadway. It's closer to Don Roadway than Carlaw. It's
through fence to north of railway tracks near FirstGulf trailer.

[Ontbirds] Lark Sparrow - Toronto Islands

2015-09-16 Thread Gavin Platt
There is a Lark Sparrow on Ward's Island, very near the ferry docks. It was
originally found this morning by Bill Smith and Peter McParland.

I just relocated it, feeding in the grass at the north end of the open field by
the island cafe. This is due south of the Wards Island ferry docks.

To get to the Islands, take the Wards Island ferry from the ferry terminal at
Bay St & Queens Quay in toronto.
