[Ontbirds] Neotropic Cormorant - Hamilton
This morning at approximately 6:15am while viewing the long-staying Snowy Egret & various shorebirds at Windermere Basin, I had an apparent Neotropic Cormorant flying overhead with a flock of Double-crested Cormorants heading eastward towards the Lakeland Centre and Lake Ontario. The. The bird was noticeably smaller (roughly 2/3 of the size) than the other cormorants with a longish-appearing tail. Nearby areas including the Tollgate Pond, north shore islands, etc., should be checked when the cormorants settle in to roost later on today. [Ontbirds] Neotropic Cormorant, Hamilton- No
Since I haven't seen any posts from people out searching, I took a brief look at the noon hour before a meeting and people I talked to there as well as people from this morning. The bird has not been relocated at this time. Thought I would let people know since I have had emails asking. I will post immediately if I get wind of it. [Ontbirds] NEOTROPIC CORMORANT - Hamilton (flyby)
Birders, Around 8am this morning I had a small cormorant fly east past my condo (near Green Rd. in Stoney Creek on Lake Ontario), but did not have my camera ready and watched it slowly fly away... About 45 minutes later I watched a similar group (~20 Double-crested Corms) flying WEST, containing a similar small bird... This time I had the camera ready (and had a prolonged view) of a bird that appears to be an adult NEOTROPIC CORMORANT... I watched the bird fly west into Hamilton until out of view... Hopefully with the lack of birds around someone can relocate the bird at a nearby Cormorant hot stop like Windemere Basin or the west end of Hamilton Harbour. Good luck and good birding! My place is at the end of Green Rd. in Stoney Creek, with close exits off the QEW at Centennial Parkway or Fruitland Rd. ___ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
