The oldest ram we have eaten was three years old. We were skeptical so we had everything ground up. My family eats a lot of ground meat. The meat turned out to be just fine! Please send us some of that rain ;-) We average something like 11 inches per year and it gets mighty hot right now. Wish the sheep would take a better liking to my cheat grass. You can do whatever you want as a breeder. I try to rotate my rams every year and find one that has the traits that I want without inbreeding... I kept one for 2 years and had low birth weights. Not sure if it was from the dry pastures or inbreeding. I can control the inbreeding, I can't irrigate...
