[blackbelly] Average lamb weights?

2005-05-25 Thread Julian Hale
What does the average Barbado ram lamb weigh at 6 months? About what
percentage of the live weight is the hanging weight?

Thanks,
Julian Hale

[blackbelly] Re: Blackbelly-blackbellysheep.info Digest, Vol 1, Issue 152

2005-05-25 Thread Nancy Richardson
We have ordered and used the mini tag. It worked great on our little Jacob
lambs. We had our name "MossySpr" put at the top and then a number starting
with 1. Each year we plan to use a different color to mark our lambs so that
will give an age at a glance. Then the number will tell which ewe the lamb
came from hopefully. Hope all goes well with your tagging. The lambs didn't
bleed or anything when tagged. Nancy

Re: [blackbelly] mini tag approval

2005-05-25 Thread Carol J. Elkins
Diane, thanks for letting us know this! This is great news for our poor
little sheep ears. I have not used the mini tags but I wouldn't hesitate to
endorse any tag that Premier sells. They have spent big bucks researching
all of the European tagging products and the 2X tag was said to have been
the absolute best tag for not ripping ears. If Premier thinks the Mini-tag
is this good, then that is good enough for me.

If you order these tags, please let us know your experiences.

On the personalization, I have the animal's flock number imprinted on the
tag. That way it does double-duty as a scrapie tag and as an animal ID tag.
Here is what is printed on BOTH sides of my 2X tags:

USDA insignia and Premier insignia
COPB07 (my USDA premises ID)
1234 (the animal's individual flock number that I assign)

Carol
P.S. The four or six of us enrolled in the voluntary scrapie certification
program cannot use the Mini-tags because they are not tamper-proof. Our
program requires us to purchase approved tamper-proof tags. Premier's 2X
tag comes in a tamper-proof version. I hope that eventually Premier will
creat a tamper-proof Mini-tag.

She said 7-9 characters will fit if you're wanting the tags personalized
somehow (Farm name).

Has anyone used these as ID or whatever prior to the govt ok as scrapie tags?

[blackbelly] mini tag approval

2005-05-25 Thread Diane Wright

Buenos Dias!
:-)
I just spoke with a rep at Premier about scrapie tags, and she said their new MiniTag has been
approved for the mandatory program as of early this month.
If you have a 2005 'Equipment that Works' annual catalog... the MiniTags are pictured on pg 27 or

She said 7-9 characters will fit if you're wanting the tags personalized

Has anyone used these as ID or whatever prior to the govt ok as scrapie tags?
Opinions?

Diane
