Re: [blackbelly] lambing kidding is complete
In my experience, IVOMEC has done the best job for the least cost of any wormer I have tried. I use orally it to worm the dogs and to prevent heartworms also. When a couple of drops are mixed with mineral oil it works great for ear mites on the cats. It prevents ticks on the dogs when used properly. It can cause some allergic reactions in collies, so it is used with caution on border collies. As a note, I mix permethrin with mineral oil 1 oz per qt and put a line down the backs of the sheep and the dogs for flies, fleas, and ticks. It works as good as the $125/ gallon stuff. If I could get the Insect growth regulator again, I would use it also... Re: [blackbelly] Lambing kidding is complete
I had a ewe that was this way only she had lost her lambs last fall due to my guard donkeys killing them. I did various treatments and additives in the feed etc. 3 weeks ago I wormed the entire flock with panacur. She seemed to show a little impreovement. last Saturday I wormed the entire flock again with Ivomec, She is showing a great improvement. I had excellent results with Ivomec, and cannot find any good reason that I used panacur, except the vet mentioned that panacur was a little easier on the gut. I bought into that myth about blackbellies being resistant to worms ( OK I know I started something here) but my sheep will get a worming every 6 months no matter what from now on. I would guess that this ewe has an Ivomec deficiency. Hey all, Been down in bed for awhile. Our Spring lambs produced 3 ewe lambs and one ram lamb. One set of twins, the rest were singles. The last ewe lamb had a white patch on her forehead, blackbelly markings on face and legs, but belly is brown not black except up at the front. All the sheep (9 total) are doing well with minimal care(no wormings, no hoof trimming thus far, no vaccines), dh has completed the fencing for this year. Next, a better shelter and handling area. RE: [blackbelly] Lambing kidding is complete
Question: I have a young ewe that had one lamb this last season. She is the most timid and gets pushed away from her feed. She has gotten really poor. I have checked for worms and it was good. I pull her out every night and feed her by herself but she is still so poor and is due to lamb. I am lost. All my other ewes perk up after weaning and even get fat but not this one. Does anyone have any ideas. She gets the run of the place and does not seem depressed just looks bad. I am open to any ideas. We do not have a sheep vet this way or I would get her to him as she had such a nice ram last season. Wonderful! What kind of incubator are you using? I have never been that lucky, particularly with turkeys. We had 2 lambs - one of each, a ewe and a ram - and our 2 full size goats had does and the pygmys both had bucks, we also hatched 2 batches of eggs - 64 in the 1st and 66 in the 2nd - with 25+ due in a few days. everything went smoothly after we lost our first ewe and her twins (she would have had a ewe and a ram so still would have been fifty-fifty).
