 Ah! Just seen that gettext installs its/loc files in
 /usr/share/gettext-0.19.8/its. Specially, it has appdata.{its,loc} files,
 which can be used for metainfo.xml files. Now according to the doc '''Both
 ITS rule files and locating rule files must be installed in the
 $prefix/share/gettext/its directory'''. So my guess is that we are missing
 a step in gettext installation: either link /usr/share/gettext/its to
 /usr/share/gettext-/its, or copy files from
 /usr/share/gettext-/its to /usr/share/gettext/its.

 Thoughts?

 Both directories were installed as a part of LFS.  I'm not sure why
 /usr/share/gettext-0.19.8 was installed.  We only use
 --docdir=/usr/share/doc/gettext-0.19.8.1, so those ae a part of the make
 install. I originally isntalled glib-2.54.3 on Feb 19, and then updated on
 Mar 17, Mar 24, and finally to glib-2.56.1 on Apr 8,

 The directory /usr/share/gettext/its was installed as a part of glib.

 I suppose we could do:

 ln -s  ../gettext-0.19.8/its /usr/share/gettext/its

 as a part of LFS.

 In the gettext tarball, there is a file, PACKAGING, which does mention
 both directories.

 I tried copying all the files:

 cd   /usr/share/gettext-0.19.8/its
 cp ../../gettext/its/* .

 but gnome screenshot could not locate its ITS rules.  I also tried

 cd   /usr/share/gettext/its
 cp ../../gettext-0.19.8/its/* .

 but got the same result.

 --

 I checked arch and they have "makedepends=(git meson appstream-glib)"  I
 wonder if the missing its file(s) are in appstream-glib.

I only look at Arch if I need to build a new package or if I get a
problem.  Most of what I have looked at is in AUR (user-supported)
and I don't recall ever noticing tests being run.  But I guess that
comes down to whoever contributes the particular package.

Thanks for the link.

They appear to be updating config.guess and config.sub in various
directories and then apparently running ./configure to create
config.toml.

Maybe I should look at, and for,
0001-Ignore-stack-probes-tests-on-powerpc-s390x-too.patch
... found the build at
https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/rust/tree/master
Nope, it only adds those arches to what is ignored, doesn't get
applied on x86.

Last time I looked (some months ago), they were not running the
tests.

Theyi now have only two failures

test [run-make] run-make/atomic-lock-free ... FAILED

test [run-make] run-make/sysroot-crates-are-unstable ... FAILED

but they appear to be building for all arches and of course they
have gdb installed.

 I got this to work!  I retrieved appdata.{its,loc} from the current
 appstream-glib package and put them into /usr/share/gettext/its.  That's
 all that is needed.

 They are short:

 Actually, I was wrong in comment:12. In two respects:
 - The appdata.÷{its,loc} files installed by gettext-0.19.8.1 are not
 enough for translating metainfo files. This is fixed upstream, but the
 appdata.loc file in /usr/share/gettext-0.19.8/its needs to be changed
 from:

   to what Bruce has put above.
 - Once this file is changed, nothing more is needed. msgfmt looks for the

Yes, this motto is by the rust web page

I will say that it may well be, firefox with rust is stable and we may
try to use rust on thunderbird too. It's just that their tests do not
yet fully support our processors. I'm sure that it's a matter of time.

Do you remember what happened on gentoo and other mailing lists with the
advent of ryzen? After the gcc-7.3 release all these threads became
inactive.

 Well, I _was_ making progress.  Then I started looking at possible
 improvements in the build and my DESTDIR installs failed part-way.  Will
 need to do a bit more testing.

 Meanwhile, the installed version with its shipped llvm can build librsvg
 so that should not hold things up.

Yes, I know.  Others too have quoted it in its entirety.  But to my
mind the claims are "not proven".  For thread safety I'm willing to
give them the benefit o the doubt at the moment, but I can't
currently agree with 'prevents segfaults'.
