Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers
Hi Tammy, If you have sighted assistance, or, if you know the information by heart, then you can go to Western's web site, and do a search for the model number of the device. Nine times out of ten, when you do that, it will take you directly to what you want. You may also want to check out the site's downloads section for the drivers. I know the feeling of having to click on nine thousand links just to get to the one you want, but such are the facts of life. If you know the model number, and/or serial number, send it off to the list, along with the drive's particulars, such as storage capacity and the like, and maybe someone on the list can get them for you. Just a thought. Hi Tammy A lot of devices will include a minidisk in the box which include the W98 drivers if they're needed. Have you looked to see if it's possibly there? Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers
OK, then you shouldn't have a problem getting them over to the Win 98 machine. Just burn them to the CD on the other machine and launch the file from the CD on the Win 98. Like I said, I have never tried that update, so I can't tell you how it works, but good luck with it. Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers
Denny, I will give that a try. Before I do let me make sure I clearly state that this is for a computer that is NOT on the internet. I will have to download this onto this computer which is running Windows xp. Will this be a problem that you know of? Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers
Oops, forgot to say. It is 98se. As for checking the site, no I haven't.Maybe I will check there. The last time I checked for drivers, it took me through so much stuff, I got frustrated and gave up. I would enter on a download link and then there would be 7 zillion more options. I felt as if I were going in circles. I will try again. thanks for the suggestion. - Original Message - From: "Ricque" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Saturday, September 08, 2007 1:26 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers > Hi Tammy, > Is this Windows 98, or 98SE? > 98First edition seemed to be just getting started with USB support. > Have you tried checking the Western Digital website? > Richard Justice > www.blind-computing.com > - Original Message - > From: tammy cantrell > To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com > Sent: Saturday, September 08, 2007 1:55 PM > Subject: [Blind-Computing] drivers > > > Hello, > I have a computer that is running Windows 98 on it. Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers
Tammy, Not sure if you want to try this or not, but there is an unofficial service pack release for Windows 98 that includes drivers for USB. Go to: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4131&file=9&evp=f7b03d47937ac8f 5241010dcfe035f33 After that page loads, in the search box type in, Windows 98 service pack. It will lead you to the download. Since I don't have Win98 on any of my machines, I can't tell you anymore than that. Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers
Hi Tammy, Is this Windows 98, or 98SE? 98First edition seemed to be just getting started with USB support. Have you tried checking the Western Digital website? Re: [Blind-Computing] drivers
If this is a new U.S.B. external hard drive, the manufacturer most likely did not make drivers for it, since it was intended for use on an XP or Vista machine. Your only source for possible drivers would be on the Western Digital home page if you have a computer on the internet or call them by phone. Good luck.
