[Blind-Computing] My Documents icon

2008-06-19 Thread Alan & Terrie Robbins
Somehow I have inadvertently lost the Win XP desktop icon called My
Documents. It is the fixed one Windows puts on the desktop above the My
Computer. I can put a shortcut to the desktop with a
new my documents
icon but it is listed alphabetically with the rest of the shortcuts I have
created rather than Windows. I remember there was a way to go into some
settings menu somewhere where there were check boxes for My documents, my
computer , my network places etc. . One could select what they wanted on
the desktop. I can't remember how to get to those boxes. Any thoughts?

thanks
Al

Re: [Blind-Computing] My Documents icon

2008-06-19 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Alan,
Go to the control panel, then display.
Once there, go to the desktop tab.
Tab thru the controls until you come to customize, and spacebar that.
You'll find what you need there.

[Blind-Computing] list memo

2008-06-19 Thread David Ferrin
I need at least a couple of people to reply to this message from the following
internet providers. Com Cast, Bell South, SBCGlobal, AT&T and Road Runner.
Those providers have been giving us stress this week on the server side of

Re: [Blind-Computing] list memo

2008-06-19 Thread Patricia Dunbar
Thank goodness..you don't know how concerned I felt when the email came
stating my emails had been bouncing and I was on disabled status and then
trying to confirm to reply and that coming back as still no go and finally
doing all of the steps through my settings for the web site which I hadn't
ever bothered with any of that before, but found it interesting and since I
was there went on and made some changes...
But I was starting to get a complex here because one of those posts said I
was ignored and I've been trying to remember what I had done..

Sorry it's all been one big headache for the server and all. I know SBC has
been concentrating on upgrading their lines to fiber optic for that UVerse
or whatever it's called all to do with the digital tv viewing and since they
just can't be content to offer phone and internet services have to go into
the tv side of it as well and try to take over the state of Texas is really
now just getting too big for their britches.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Windows Log On

2008-06-19 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Lino,

Try the steps below and/or the link at the bottom of the steps.

this may be what your looking for;

XP Log-On

This can be accomplished very simply:

1. From the run dialogue, type exactly what you see on the next line
exactly the way you see it:

control userpasswords2

This will open a special dialogue from which you can select your own user
account to log on by default.

 2. You will land on a checkbox that says, Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer checkbox checked. Leave it checked for now
and
tab once.

3. You should hear: Users for this computer: list view administrator
administrator.
4. Arrow down to your name. It should say something like your name and
administrator, like Lino administrator.

5. Tab back around to that checkbox that said, users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer, and hit the space bar to uncheck it.

6. Tab to apply and hit the space bar.

7. Then tab to the okay button and hit the space bar!

Your done, your computer should boot up now without having to log in.

Basically you have now told the computer to automatically log you in without
requiring you to type the information in.

[Blind-Computing] Transferring address books

2008-06-19 Thread Brian Tipka
 Hi friends,
Is there an easier way to transfer the address books in Out Look Express other
than by using the import/export option found when Out Look is open. Some thing
like transferring my favorites found in Internet Explorer which can be gotten
by going to my computer, then the c drive, then documents and settings then all
users and then high lighting my favorites, copying them to the clipboard and
then pasting them where you want them. Any help would be appreciated.

[Blind-Computing] firefox flashing a message

2008-06-19 Thread Carlene Knight
Hi:

When rebooting my computer using the latest vbersion of Firefox, it asks if I
want to restore the previous session or start a new one. That in itself is ok,
but what isn't is that now the message flashes across the screen causing JAWS to
say part of it over and over and over again. Does anybody know of a way to get
JAWS to stop doing this, or better yet, how to get Firefox to stop flashing that
stupid message. Having it up to choose from is one thing, but flashing is
another. I wouldn't have known what was causing the problem if my husband who
is sighted hadn't told me. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
