[Blind-Computing] What To Do When Your Hard Drive Crashes

2009-07-10 Thread Donnie Parrett
Hey Guys,

I received this message from a group list that I am a part of, and I wanted
some of you to read it
and see if this really works or not. I don't know what good it would do to do
what she said she
did, but maybe some of you can shed a little light on the subject. Here is the
message:

I'm sorry I haven't been able to post anything to this list for a few days, but
I had a major crash
of an external drive, which had all of my music collection on it, and I've been
working feverishly
to try and recover what I can from that drive the past few days. Fortunately,
I was able to recover
a lot, but the drive, itself, is shot. I wanted to share a tip with you all
that helped me save
most of my music collection that was on that drive. We put my damaged drive in
the freezer for a
couple of hours and then immediately took it out and hooked it up and within
minutes I was able to
copy things from it onto a safer drive. I ended up having to place my drive in
the freezer a couple
of times, just to be able to copy the data from it, but it did work, so if you
ever have a hard
drive or external drive crash, and you would like to try and get the data from
that drive, try
putting the drive in the freezer for a few hours and then immediately put it
back into your computer
or hook it up to your computer, and try and get off what you can, before it
totally goes. I have to
admit that when we first learned of this technique, we were really skeptical,
but this time it did
work for me. My husband works on computers and he learned this trick as part
of his tech training.

[Blind-Computing] AVG 8.5 Email Question

2009-07-10 Thread Patricia Dunbar

Hello,

I have recently updated my email address and would like info if I need to
contact AVG of this change?

I did send them a request on their web page with my current license info,
but thought I would run it by this list here to see if this is necessary or
will AVG automatically recognize the new email address change?

Thanks,

Patricia

I was having the same problem. I was sent a link to a Microsoft website
that had a program that fixed the problem. Let me find the link and I'll
email it to you.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Frustrated with Googlemail

2009-07-10 Thread Elaine

hi Chris

know this appears to be a strange thing to say, no, leave it alone.

trust me, it will sort itself out. when you go to get her email, if you get
the error message, dot click wait, click on the cancel, you'll see an error
message but you will get emails.

I get this periodically and it drives me nuts.

At first I tried all sorts of things, re installing my account, to changing
passwords, I accidentally found out about the above method of just canceling
the download. don't know why it works but it does.

Hello all,
Although I'm having no problems with Googlemail, I'm checking for my
girlfriend as she's currently away on vacation. For the past few days it's
been starting to reject her password. It happened Sunday morning UK time,
then it was fine once I re-enabled "enable POP for all mail" in
Googlemail's forwarding and pop settings. I tried the same technique today
as once again it's rejecting her password, and this time it's not working.
Should I consider changing her password? Don't worry; she's given me
permission to do all this as she's away and didn't want her inbox to clog
up when she gets back.
Please advise as soon as possible as I'd like to get this resolved in time
for when she gets back tomorrow.

Thanks.

[Blind-Computing] Help locating UK dictionary for OE

2009-07-10 Thread Elaine
Hi guys

does anyone know if there is a UK dictionary for OE? and preferably where to
locate it.

I've tried the dictionaries from the jaws users web page, they appear to only
have the US language.

this is better than French, but I prefer UK language.

thanks

I downloaded it and tried to install it. It says, that it has detected a
previous version. And I need to uninstall it. The last version I had was
Jaws 5.1 and it would just let you select modify, repair, or uninstall this
one doesn't. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It'll be the same, except you'll need to have the correct build, EG, if your

running jaws 10.0.1154, you'll need to download the 10.0.1154 installer from

the FS site and use that to repair the install, otherwise you'll just get an

error saying that there's a newer version of jaws installed.
