Hi, everyone,

I'
ve been having so much trouble with windows messenger so I'm looking for
an alternative that will do what windows messenger does or similar. I
wrote to microsoft about the problem but apparently they have no intention
of fixing it. Some friends of mine are also having problems with windows
messenger. I unchecked the box for messenger to start when the compputer
boots up. I also didn't want it to ask me to log in when I started outlook
express so I unchecked that box too. That's why I'm asking about an
alternative for windows messenger.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

I totally agree with the sentiment to explore and figure out the problem
rather than just abandon the AVG ship. I have found the program to be
excellent for the last couple of years and I too have paid a subscription
that will last for another year or two. Unless the problem is found to be
unsolvable by us, the users, and unfixable by the developers. What I'm
hoping to do is learn how to fix it by doing just what we are doing here,
comparing experiences. So far, I haven't heard from anyone besides

I am wondering if it has anything to do with what operating system is

Even though AVG said v/9 works still with xp I can't seem to get rid of

I have tried to uncheck everything I felt I could within AVG 9

So I enabled the "pop up" in internet explorer and even though

Hope this might be helpful to anyone else using AVG 9.

Many former AVG users like myself have switched to MSE rather than deal with
AVG's annoying glitches. So there are fewer AVG users on this list to share
experiences with. Besides, according to recent comparison tests, AVG is no
better at virus detection than MSE. If you really need the extra features
that the paid version of AVG offers, then by all means stick with it. But
for the rest of us, who just need basic real-time protection, MSE is a
better alternative.

Re: [Blind-Computing] The "open with" dialog box

2009-12-05 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Doug,

The below steps are for opening a .wmv file. Substitute midi for wmv or the
letter " M " for the letter " W ". Press the letter " M " until you land on
the midi file ext.
1. Go to My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options
2. Shift-Tab to the General Tab, and move right to the File Types Tab
3. Tab once, hit a "W" on your keyboard to jump down in the list to find the
WMV entry.
4. Tab to get to the Change button which will open a list of programs, find
Windows Media Player, Tab to check the box for Always use this program and
click Ok.
You can also open the " new field " and addingthe the .midi extension to
your list and then choosing a program to open it.
You can accomplish the same thing by navigating to
the actual file, hold your left-shift key while right-clicking the file to
select Open With and choose Windows Media Player in the same manner as Step
4 above.

If you do in fact have windows media player installed, then you might need
to check if that file extension doesn't maybe have an extra space at the end
or something which is stopping windows from recognising it and knowing what
to do with it.
Hope this helps a little. Take care.

What a pain this is!!
I have midi files I want to open with my midi sequencer (should be simple

The open with dialog box gives me a abbreviated list of programs, among

This is probably very basic stuff, but could someone tell me how I can use

I've been trying for three days to get this midi interface working. at

I was wondering how would I know if MSE is running in the background and
pretty much if everything is set up right?
I would look at the system tray and it keeps saying checking for updates dot

MS E works just fine and is the easiest antivirus I have ever used. Once,
installed, it can be tweaked by your going to the context menu , arrowing
through items and tabbing on any you want to check on. This is truly
antivirus for dummies--like me. I have dumped AVG security suite which I
paid for. marilyn

unsolvable by us, the users, and unfixable by the developers. What I'm
hoping to do is learn how to fix it by doing just what we are doing here,

I surely wish I could help. I'm running with the latest build of Jaws

I just wanted to state that it might not be necessarily to abandon AVG on

Please tell me how that "web browser" is not popping up on your

I am wondering if it has anything to do with what operating system is
running. I am still on xp pro or the window's media 2005 which according
to FS it's considered to be xp pro.
Even though AVG said v/9 works still with xp I can't seem to get rid of

I wanted to share this bit of info regarding that "web browser"
window that pops up randomally while I'm working, and it forces me
to press the escape key and then I have to alt tab back to my
window.

I have tried to uncheck everything I felt I could within AVG 9 that
could pertain to this in hopes it would stop, but it just
continued..

So I enabled the "pop up" in internet explorer and even though this
thing still pops up on me, now with that enabled, I can press the
escape key only and I'm back where I was before it appeared.

Just tried it out, and see that if I hit the space bar on the date
control, I can then move left and right to focus on year, month and day,
and then the up and down arrow keys will change the relative value, but
you do need to first hit the space bar to sort of activate the
control/focus on it as such.
