2010-10-06 Thread Jacob Kruger
I use windows XP pro, with IE8, and while haven't tried it with older
versions, it's worked for me with both jaws10 and currently jaws11, but
anyway...

Haven't gotten windows update turned on, but my current version of IE8 is
the following from virtualised about dialogue:

Version: 8.0.6001.18702

Really can't imagine what's causing this, but is it on all webpages?

Dear Listers,

On a pc still using jaws 9 and windows xp, Windows Update installed
IE8.

Then links were inaccessible.

I managed to uninstall it and IE7 was
restored. However, links still appear to be completely inaccessible with
the
virtual cursor.

So I installed jaws 11, without better result.
Can I do anything to restore my access to links and other
information like headings etc?

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Yvonne.
If you have an external drive or separate partitions on an internal
drive, then this will be all you need to back up your data, providing
the partition(s) or drive(s) have enough space to fit them all of
course. Backing up to CD is a good idea but not worth it because of the
cost of external hard drives, which are reasonably cheap these days.

Hi Yvonne and all.
Here is how you do a clean install of Windows 7 inside Windows XP.
1. Insert your Windows 7 DVD.
2. Click install now.
3. Click "go online to get dynamic updates for setup." I personally
choose not to but Microsoft recommends you do for the latest hardware
drivers and security updates.
4. Accept the software license terms by checking the box. Click next.
5. Click custom (advanced).
6. Select the partition where Windows XP is installed. Click next.
7. Click ok on the next screen.
8. Shortly your system will reboot several times to complete
installation. Eventually "Set up Windows" appears. You can use
Narrator to help you complete this wizard.
Hope this helps.

Hi Yvonne.
You can use an upgrade disk to install Windows 7. However as you are
on XP you will have to do a clean install. In other words, there
is no
in-place upgrade from XP to Windows 7. This goes for any version

Yes. You can reinstall Windows 7 without sighted help, certainly from
within Windows. If for whatever reason Windows won't boot then yes a
reinstall will require sighted assistance (unless you're like me and
remember all the keystrokes). The reason is the DVD itself does not
provide speech as it boots a mini version of Windows called Windows PE,
or Windows Preinstallation environment.

Hi Yvonne.
You can use an upgrade disk to install Windows 7. However as you are
on XP you will have to do a clean install. In other words, there is no
in-place upgrade from XP to Windows 7. This goes for any version of XP
to any version of Windows 7. Also, if you wish to install Windows 7 64
bit, a clean install is required regardless of operating system
(unless that is also 64 bit) as you cannot install or run a 64 bit
program on a 32 bit operating system.
Hope this helps.
