Hi Folks,

Is anyone having a problem while using Jaws 12, latest build, Windows XP,
and Internet Explorer 8, that when ever you go to a website looking for a
telephone number on their contact us page, the phone number is plastered
all over the page, however, not the entire phone number is displayed, only
the first few numbers, followed by several dots.

For example, I just went to the Do Not Call Registry looking for the
telephone registration number, and I got a 1-800-

Is this a Jaws issue, an Internet Explorer issue, or are WebPages
specifically trying to keep us from telephone them?

If anyone else is experiencing this, and possibly knows how to fix it, I
would appreciate knowing how to do it.

Thanks all.

[Blind-Computing] question about recording programs

2011-03-11 Thread Wayne Scott
I have a built-in microphone on my laptop. I want to test it to see if it
works. I am thinking of volunteering for nursing homes, playing guitar for the
people. I want to put together a demo cd or something.

someone on here mentioned Goldwave or Audasity. Is there anyone who can give
me information about these programs and where I can download them? Are they
free? Which one works better with Jaws 11 and Vista? Is there anything
special I need for these programs? I have never done this before on computer.
I'm still back in cassette days which I don't have any more. I would like the
better one that works with Jaws. thanks in advance for your help. Wayne

The reason you can't find a Remove button is that you probably have no
previously installed version of IE to roll back to. Unless you had IE 7
previously installed as your browser, you will not be able to remove IE 8, .

Hi Michael;

Did you had IE7 on your computer before installing IE8? Read through the
steps below before removing IE8. Also, the steps below are for XP users.

1. Open the Control Panel, arrow down to Add or Remove programs, & press
enter.

2. Wait for the list to populate then, arrow down to Windows Internet
Explorer 8. Tab to remove & press spacebar. Say yes to any dialog boxes
asking if
you are sure you want to remove IE8.

Now, here is the trick, if you had IE7 installed on your computer before
installing IE8 & didn't uninstall it before installing IE8, by removing
IE8

your
computer will automatically roll back to IE7.

Hope this helps. Take care.

Mailing lists are in fact quite accessible to create by a blind person,
take

note of this list you are currently subscribed and my email address that

If you have never done it before there is a bit of a learning curve no

[Blind-Computing] how to create accessible mailing list

2011-03-11 Thread G . Braille

Dear all,
I have been given a responsibility to create and moderate a mailing list by
the group I am belongs to.

I am using jaws with win XP.
Now my question is:
1. what type of mailing list would be accessible to create and moderate by
the blind person?

2. is yahoo or Google or any other service is easy to create mailing list?
3. is mailing list is possible to be created independently by blind jaws
user with out sighted assistance?
Thanks in advance.

[Blind-Computing] a strange experience

2011-03-11 Thread Cliff Smales
Whenever I go to one of my many shopping web sites, I have a strange experience.

The web site stays open long enough for me to start navigating through. Then,
suddenly, it shuts down.

On the other hand, if I have an e-mail from that source, and a link is
provided, I don't experience this problem.

What can I do to correct this problem?

Any help, or advice will be gratefully received.

Cliff Smales

Hi Niamh;

For your messages not saying, unread, try pressing Alt + E, for the edit
field, arrow down to, mark as unread, & pressing enter. Hope this helps.
Take care.

In outlook express the alt F, T, etc no longer calls up the menus.
Also messages in my inbox no longer say unread.
 I am using Jaws 12, windows XP j-tools 4.
I am working on a lap top with a full sized keyboard and the setting
is

to desktop for keyboard which has always worked in the past.
what have I done this time?
 Regards
 Niamh

Hi Niamh;

Try pressing Insert / Jaws key + Spacebar, this keystroke togggles the
homerow utility mode on & off. You want it to be off. See if this helps
with your file menus showing up. I'm still playing around with the unread
thing. Hope this helps, with the file menus anyway! Take care.
