funny thing is that I'm now not getting rss messages. Yes ... rss doesn't
work again. Please, how can I go about restoring rss functionality?

Has anyone tried a repair on windows 7 home? I have
m.republicianherald.com for the mobile version of our newspaper.
When I click on the link prior to the local temp it brings up an
accuweather page for my home town. Now on that page there is an
extended forecast. When I click on that it displays state
college weather. However, the actual address has my zip code. I
ran 3 different spyware programs including combofix. It has not
corrected the problem. I then used firefox with the same result
so it has to be in my system. My wife?셲 lap top works fine. A
few months ago a similar problem was there only the site that it
tried to take me to was listed as profanity. I ran eset and the
same anti spyware programs and combofix made a registry change
that corrected the problem. It now is not making the correction.

Hi Rosemarie,

My guess would be that the criteria that was used from an old Daily Oldie
email to create the message rule and the criteria for the Daily Oldie
emails

that you are receiving now is different. In other words something in the
Daily Oldie emails has changed from then to now. Or, somehow your Daily
Oldie message rule has somehow became corrupted. Take care.

That add-on works well. I've tried it and have had no problems using

Not to mention that Firefox seems quite a bit more stable now than in

Recently, there has been a flurry of inquiries on this and other lists
regarding the compatibility of Firefox 5 with Wevvisum. Webvisum in its
current version will not work with Firefox 5, and therefore will not work
with Firefox 6, which is scheduled for release on August 16, either. My
advice is to stick with your current version of Firefox that still works
with Webvisum. Once you upgrade to a later version of Firefox and discover
that it doesn't work with Webvisum, it may be difficult or impossible to
roll back to an earlier version and get Webvisum working again. Keep in
mind that Webvism is now the only reliable means of solving captchas without
sighted help, as Solona is no longer functioning on a consistent basis. So
if the ability to solve captchas is important to you, do not upgrade to
Firefox 5 or later. On the other hand, if you don't care about solving
captchas, then go ahead and upgrade.

 Gerald

Re: [Blind-Computing] Backing Up Files

2011-07-18 Thread Lennie

Hi Julie,

The instructions that I gave was for XP using the standard version of
windows. Unfortunately, unless you have the pro version of XP, you
cannot create a bootable disk. I did the backup on to my external hard drive.

I am glad that you found this information useful since I posted it 2
years ago and I am embarrassed to say that I inadvertently send it to
the list while I was trying to clean up my sent folder. If you still
want the information to create a backup of the C drive on XP, I
should still have that too. Windows 7 has its own backup for which I
have not tried yet. I know that Image for Windows and Casper7 will
work as a backup for windows7.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Using Adobe Reader to read PDF files

2011-07-18 Thread Mike Barbara In Arcadia
Hi Francis,

the latest version is Adobe Reader X.

You need to disable protected view first to get it to work well with Jaws.

  Do the following:

  1. From either your desktop or start menu, press enter on Adobe. The
Adobe window is now open, press control + K, to open preferences. Another
way to get to preferences is after pressing enter on the Adobe shortcut,
press Alt + E, for the edit menu, arrow up to preferences, press enter.

3. When preferences opens you will be in a tree view and should be on the
General page, if not arrow up or down until you have General highlighted.
It is #4 of 29. Tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected mode
at startup, uncheck it, choose yes on the warning you will get to continue.

You need to look at 1 more setting so, tab until you have General
highlighted again.

4. With General highlighted, press the letter I, until you have Internet
highlighted.

5. Tab to, Display PDF in browser, if this box is checked press the spacebar
to uncheck it.

6. Tab to the okay button, press enter to close preferences save your
changes, press Alt + F4 to close Adobe.

If I have missed something or if there is something that should be added,
would someone please jump in correct me?!

Hope this helps. Take care.

Mike

2011-07-18 Thread Lennie Rinaldi

Rogelio,

I will try to explain what I do to backup my C drive.

You have to enter on the following link when you start the system backup:

If you prefer, you can switch to Advanced Mode to change the
settings used for backup or restore. This option is recommended
for advanced users only.

the following screen is displayed:

Backup Utility - [Untitled]

Welcome to the Backup Utility Advanced Mode
If you prefer, you can switch to Wizard Mode to
use simplified settings for backup or restore.

Backup Wizard (Advanced)
The Backup wizard helps you create a backup of your programs and files.
Restore Wizard (Advanced)
The Restore wizard helps you restore your data from a backup.
Automated System Recovery Wizard
The ASR Preparation wizard helps you create a
two-part backup of your system: a floppy disk that has
your system settings, and other media that
contains a backup of your local system partition.

Ready

You will be in the welcome pad, Do a CTRL+tab to
move to the next screen. You will then be in the
backup pad. Partial display of the screen is shown below:

Backup Utility - [Untitled]
Job Edit View Tools Help

folder or file that you want to back up.

You will be in a preview. Move to open up my
computer and arrow down the list. If you have a
floppy drive A, you will get an error message if
there is no floppy disk in the drive. See Below:

The drive A: did not respond. Please make sure
there is a valid disk in the drive and

the drive is functioning correctly.

Just enter on the OK button and arrow down one
item. You should be on the local drive C. Hit the
spacebar to check it. If you have other drives
and there are no CD in the drive, you will also
get the error message. Simply enter on the OK
button. Arrow down until you reach system state and check it with the spacebar.

After selecting your drives to backup, tab twice
to enter the path and file name where you want
the backup to be stored. In my case it would be:

J:\C backup 2009-04-22

Then tab twice to start the backup button.

Depending on the size of your data on the C
drive, it can take a while. My backup takes
approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

When the backup is finish, I tab to the backup
report and read the results of the backup. This
is a text file that will come up in NotePad.

I have not gone into the more advanced portion of
window system backup. However, I have use the
wizard mode to restore certain files from my C
backup. The restore process is another process. I
sometime choose an alternate location to restore
a file especially if I don't want to overwrite
what is currently on my computer. I never had a
system crash where I had to do a complete restore.

I use the system backup to backup all my music
files which is on a separate hard drive. The
original hard drive crashed and after I had a new
hard drive installed, I did a full rescore of all
my music from the backup. It works like a champ.
The only problem that I had was that the backup
was old and I did not have a more recent backup
at that time. I learned my lesson and backup everything more frequently.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Don,

Do you happen to know what is the difference
between an image copy and window system backup?
I usually run the window system backup twice a
month and I also use it to backup my documents
at least weekly. I have two external hard drive
that I make my backups so if one fails, the
other one would be available. It is like having a backup for a backup.

I have done some restore from the window system
backup mainly for my personal files, but I never have to
use it to restore my computer. In fact, if I
have to I wouldn't know how to bring my
computer back to the point of the most recent backup.

I also have Karen's replicator which use for my
Word and Excel files. I usually do a backup
whenever I do a lot of changes to my files.

Anyway, I am curious what you or anyone else on
the list thinks of using window system backup.
I listened to David's tutorial on image copy
and I have been toying around with the idea to
purchase the software and do an image copy of my computer.

If you prefer, you can switch to Advanced Mode to change the
settings used for backup or restore. This option is recommended
for advanced users only.

the following screen is displayed:

You will then be in the
backup pad. Partial display of the screen is shown below:

folder or file that you want to back up.

Backup destination: Backup options:
File Normal backup. Summary log. Start Backup Some file types excluded.
Backup media or file name:

You will be in a preview. Move to open up my
computer and arrow down the list. If you have a
floppy drive A, you will get an error message if
there is no floppy disk in the drive. See Below:

The drive A: did not respond. Please make sure
there is a valid disk in the drive and
the drive is functioning correctly.
OK

Just enter on the OK button and arrow down one
item. You should be on the local drive C. Hit the
spacebar to check it. If you have other drives
and there are no CD in the drive, you will also
get the error message. Simply enter on the OK
button. Arrow down until you reach system state and check it with the
spacebar.

Mike: Why not convert the program to a format which you can view them?
If you are interested in such a program I can put it in our dropbox folder.
