I am using Nero Express successfully for this purpose.
I had a sighted person go through the process with me the first time, but
after I learned the system it works fine.

Re: [Blind-Computing] a problem with windows media player

2012-11-13 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria

Hi, Sampson.

I tried opening the oldies station but it said something about a .pls file.
How do I get rid of it? If I can get rid of this file, I think I'll have the
problem solved. When I hit enter on the listen link, it asked me if I wanted
to either save or open the file. I know firefox has a .pls file but when you
hit enter on a link in internet explorer, it's supposed to start playing.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Rosemari, this is something I found on the internet.

Over a period of time you tend to install and uninstall third-party Media
Players like VLC, GOM, AVS, Power DVD, etc. When you install these
third-party
software, each of this program take their own file associations as default
player. Good ones usually gives you a choice whether to associate all media
file
extensions to it or not while installing the program. But having said that,
not
all programs gives you a choice. They automatically take file associations
and
you end up with messed up file types for your Media playing needs. If you
love
Windows Media Player and would like to keep file associations with it, go
ahead
and follow these steps to reset all file associations with Windows Media
Player
in your Windows 7 PC.
1. Click Start—> All Programs—> Default Programs.
2. In the Default Programs dialog box, click on link “Set your default
programs”.

3. In the list of programs, select “Windows Media Player”.
4. Then click on “Set this program as default”.

5. Click on “OK” to save the settings. This will restore all the file
associations. Which means all your video and audio files will play with
Windows
Media Player by default.
In Step 4, you have choice to choose selected file type to play as default
with
Windows Media Player. You need to click on “Choose defaults for this
program”
and then select file types that you want to associate with Windows Media
Player.

Hello, everyone. Lately I’ve had a problem with windows media player. It
will no longer let me play certain files because when I hit enter on
certain files, I get an error message saying that windows media player
doesn’t recognize them. I know this isn’t true because I’ve been able to
extract files and play them in the past. This happens with ogg files and
some music albums I have.

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Windows 8 and Jaws

2012-11-13 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Dwight,
RTM, stands for release to manufacturer.
Simply put, it is the build of Windows that has been released to computer
manufacturers
for new computers.
Windows 8, does not have a start menu, as in previous versions, ,
instead it is referred to as the start screen, which does not appear as a
list, but is displayed in tiles.
HTH,
Rick Justice
