Re: [Blind-Computing] Reading handwriting

I would agree! Don't know if there will be as this is why Serotech did not
bring the docuscan to the iPhone as they said Apple does not give you enough
control of the camera to make OCR work correctly. That is why they said they
would wait till Apple let people get enough control of the camera . But
this has not happen. Now this being said if you are low vision then you will
have much better results with these apps as you have some vision to help you
line things. JST

This is true to an extent but the original question here was about hand
written material which to my knowledge cannot be recognized. The Apple apps
that OCR text require a lot of practice and patience as they were not
specifically designed for the blind, but rather the sighted community.
Having used the KNFB Mobile reader on a Nokia platform I have to say there
is no equivalent on the Apple platform as of yet. I do believe at some point
there will be. I'm not discouraging folks from trying these apps but several
folks on other lists are looking for a suitable replacement for the KNFB
reader say there is no comparison.

[Blind-Computing] create another log on account

2012-12-08 Thread Lenny McHugh
I now have a small problem. I have this computer set up with one account that
is also the administrator with no passwords. My grandson’s computer is down and
he wants to download a few things from iTunes for his Ipod. Here is the
problem, although we have separate accounts the items are downloaded into
iTunes. Talking to a support guy at apple he told me that when I plug in my
iPhone his music and apps will be loaded into my iPhone and when he plugs in
his iPod my apps and such will be loaded into his device. He suggested that I
create an account just for him with a copy of iTunes.
Now how would I start that process and move his games etc. into his account. I
would like to move a copy of office 2010, and ie as well. Then I would like my
backup software to capture both accounts.

Apparently, you do not have administrative privilages on that computer you
are using. If this is a computer in an organization then users are
restricted due to some IT policies.

If it is your home computer then the username or account you are logging in
with is not an administrative account. This can be changed as follows:

The below instructions are for windows xp.

Click on start, Settings, Control Panel.

In the control panel window, go to user accounts and hit enter to open a new
window.
In the new window under the heading, Pick a task...
Click enter on the option:
Change an account

On the next window, hit enter on the account you want to change, for example
my windows account is Mujtaba.

On the next window, under the heading: What do you want to change about your
account? Hit enter on Change my account type.

On the next window you will get radio buttons and you need to select the one
that says Computer administrator.

Once you are done doing this, tab to the button change account type and hit
enter to accept changes to the account.

Close all windows and restart your computer, relogin to that account and
then check if there is any change.

Correct me if I am wrong, I have heard the apple i-phone has an app, that is
real time OCR. This is what I understand of it, but did not get the time or
space to research on the same, you launch the app, using the camera on the
phone one or two inches above the printed matter and slowly hover over the
printed material and the phone voices the matter to you in real time.

Sounds really unbelievable, but if it is true, I am going to invest heavy on
that phone. I am sure it's not gonna help with hand written matter, printed
matter I guess it can take into stride.

Hi Stephanie,
Actually, I believe you have to manually enter the dollar amount from the
keypad.
Doubt that we will have access to hand writing at the computer anytime soon,
since OCR technology isn't perfect for type written characters.

Hello all,
When my husband goes to the ATM machine, he deposits hand-written checks and

the machine proceeds to spit out a receipt with the correct dollar amount
printed on it. This tells me that there must be a way for blind
professionals to read a form or check with hand-written material, somehow.
There are various assistive devices and technology that can read printed
material, such as the ATM receipt. So, has anyone heard of a way for blind
people to read a hand-written check at home or in the office?
Thanks for your help,
Stephanie

Close all windows and restart your computer, relogin to that account and
then check if there is any change.

good morning all;

well, a little more information regarding my wife's vista machine and
internet explorer 9.

it seems, if I just press the icon on the desktop, IE takes forever to load
a page,

example;

google.com

however,

if I take the following steps,

1, desktop,

highlight internet explorer,

2, press applications key,

press the letter "a"=run as administrator

3, either tab to continue, or alt+c for the user account control,

the page loads in seconds.

does anyone have any ideas on what to do?

I did a restore,

I've uninstalled, reinstalled, IE,

I did a system check for errors,

virus and malware checks,

used the microsoft fixit tool,

still no result.

I'm totally stumped.

have a good day.
