Hello friends, I urgently need your help please. as you all may be aware I posted previusly a problem concerning IE or any browser won't let me change my homepage from AVG security search. I was told that it probably had to do with some kind of settings in parental control and I went in there to see if I could figure out what to do. Whilst in there, I was prompted by Windows to set a password, less programs or persons could have acces and pose some kind of a security risk which I did and confirmed it in the box that followed. I created a really simple password which I am sure to remember and when I rebooted the machine I am locked out of Windows. I hear the startup sound but gets the prompt to enter my password and it never worked. So one problem lead me int another. Do you have any idea as to how I can reset this or would I have to do the dreaded reformat? I have been advised that it may mean that my hard disc is gone? Since I am on holidays, I am considering reinstalling Windows but have never tried this before. I have the system restore disc for this HP work station and I believe there is a label on the machine itself with the Windows seriel number. This is a HP work station running Windows Vista business. Can some kind soul provide me with step by step instructions on how to ensure that my hard disc is absolutely clean and reinstalling / restoring Windows? Also, is restoring or reinstalling Windows one and the same thing? We did a restore using F8 followed by a full malware scan which removed two items from the system. We reinstalled MSE but unfortunately the message Windows have suffered a critical error, the system will log off in 1 minute please save your work has returned. Worse still, there is no F8 or restore option any longer. I assume if I opt for a system recovery option, I'll loose all my data? Need help! I clicked on a link from the Bing search engine which asked me to update my flash player but I think it has installed some trogen on my machine. It turned off my Windows firewall and MSE protection. Despite many attempts, I was unable to turn on the firewall or scan my machine using MSE so, I uninstalled and reinstalled MSE. Since then, I am getting a Windows critical error message and my machine reboots automatically after 1 minute. I am running Windows Vista Business on this machine ( HP Work station ) Any help will be truly appreciated.
