[Blind-Computing] Recording Audio within the PC

2013-04-10 Thread Sharon Hooley

Hi all!

I'd like to be able to record the audio that comes from within my
laptop with Audacity 1.3. I would do this, for example, when I want my
screen reader to read information on the internet. I've done this
before, and I remember selecting mono mix, but I don't know or
remember how to access this feature. Which keyboard commands should I use?

Thanks,

Hi all! I wish you all a great new year.

I'm using Windows 7 with Jaws 12. I'm having a hard time accessing the

Any more accessible way to get around in the Notification area to

[Blind-Computing] Creating a Gmail Account (Was this discussed before?)

Hi all!

I've seen the subject of Gmail, but I wasn't interested at the time.
I'm having a difficult time trying to create a gmail account. Did
anyone give any tips for this? If this is a repeat, you can write me
off list. There are some email lists I might want to subscribe to, and
I'd like to use it as an email service in the future if it still works well.

[Blind-Computing] More about the Special Cassette Player

2012-08-14 Thread Sharon Hooley
The device looks very much like an old-fashioned small recorder but
with some features that look different. I discovered that there's a
button or switch that will make it play the other side of a tape
without having to turn it over. As I mentioned, it gets it's power via
a USB Port. It came with software, the Cassette to CD Wizard that
guides you through the process. I can access some of their options
with Jaws 12, but I don't see the record button, unfortunately.
Interestingly enough, the seller sends Audacity on a CD. Maybe that's
what the Wizard uses?

[Blind-Computing] Anyone Know how to use FileCopter

2012-02-22 Thread Sharon Hooley

Hi all!

Is anyone familiar with a website called FileCopter? (not sure if
spelled correctly). It's like SendSpace where you upload and share
files, but this one will generate cash for you. It's not as simple as
sendSpace though. It seems harder for me to find the correct link to
share, and it doesn't seem to have the option of automatically sending
me the download link. Any help would be much appreciated.

[Blind-Computing] More about Trouble Using Computer

2011-06-01 Thread Sharon Hooley
I have a sneaking suspicion that IDTAudio's automatic starting up
when something is plugged into the input jack for recording has
something to do with this problem. I took my microphone away, and
now it's working easily. But it doesn't always act like this when
it's plugged in! Hmm. If this sounds right, how do you make it stop
doing it at startup?Any other ideas?

Thanks again,

[Blind-Computing] Music Interface and Software

2011-05-29 Thread Sharon Hooley

Hi!

You asked about how to use a music interface with accessible
software. I strongly recommend that you take a look at :

http://www.DancingDots.com

They have products that can help you do what you want with your
music. As for not having a USB port for your keyboard, you would
need a midi cable to connect it to a port that is something like what
your monitor is attached to but that is for a sound card. And you
might want to get a higher-end sound card too.

Hope this helps,

Sharon

[Blind-Computing] More about USB Music Keyboards

Hi again,

I have a Key Station midi controller that attaches via a USB
port. It doesn't have its own sounds, but manipulates software
already on your computer. this software is called a Soft
Synthesizer, or soft synth. Your key station would be kind of like a
regular keyboard or mouse that can't do anything by itself, but
controls what goes on in your system.

Hth,

sharon.

[Blind-Computing] Alternatives to Function keys?

2011-03-26 Thread Sharon Hooley

Hi!

I purchased a Del laptop last fall. Although it works fairly well
for me, it lacks many of the desired commands for the function
keys. For example, you would normally press F1 to get help. On this
computer, you get choices like, Projector, Computer, Extend.

So I'm wondering, do any of you know of a way to fix that, or are
there any alternatives commands for Jaws in such areas as the Jaws
Find Dialog where you have to press F3 to look for the next
item? When I use firefox, doing the ctrl+f repeatedly only takes me
back to the first instance on that page. Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

[Blind-Computing] Ripping CD's in Windows 7

what would you recommend?
