Hi All,

I may have to start using ClipArt at work. Does anyone have any
suggestions
on where I can find ClipArt that is labeled for JAWS to read the
description

of the picture? I am using JAWS 10, Office 2007 and Windows XP.

How does one do this? It doesn't appear to be one's standard download and

Hello all,
Could someone please write to me off list so I can attach a document?
It's a resit assignment documentation and I can't read certain parts
of

it as JAWS keeps saying blank blank blank. I tried changing the font
with no go. I even tried converting the table to text thinking it was
a

layout issue and still no go. I even tried saving it as HTML but the
converted web page didn't even show the part at all! But I know it's
there as there's lots of blank blank blanks. Anyway, all help would be
greatly appreciated. I'd like to start on this today or tomorrow if
possible.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mitch,

I send Email to my wife's phone all the time. It doesn't cost me a thing
to send it from my computer, and she has a pre-paid plan that allows for
getting messages without any additional charges, as long as she doesn't
go over her allowed minutes.

Here is some information that might be of use to you.

To send Email from your computer to a cell phone that has internet
connection, just put the phone number in place of phonenumber in each
of the following. No dashes or anything between the numbers. Put it in
the Send To section in your Email, just like a regular Email address.

It's all free for you to send the Email, but remember some people have
to pay a charge for each incoming text message they get, so might wanna
check with them if it will cost them if you send an Email to them.

Hi Larry,

To do this, you have to find out what the extension is for the person you
are calling.

For example, for me, to send me a text message, one would send it to the
following number:

my cell phone num...@rci.rogers.com

That address would go into the to: field of the message.

When sending a text message, remember to place the message in the subject
line, not in the body of the message.

You don't place anything in the body of the message, only in the subject
line.

Hope this helps.

Remember, you'll have to call who ever it is you want to send the message
to, or their carrier, to find out the extension, as it's not always the
same for all carriers.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Navigating a Web Site Using Visual Basic

I am trying to write a Visual Basic program to automate a procedure for a
friend. I need some advice or a reference on the HTML Document Object and
how to use it for this purpose.

Here is the procedure:

1. The user needs to go to the web site:
http://www.co.wayne.ny.us/RPT-TaxSearch/
2. The user needs to click on the I Agree button at the bottom of the
page.
3. This brings up a new web site with a search box.
4. The user then needs to enter and ID# in the search box and perform
the search.
5. The results come up with a table from which the user needs to get
some info and put it into an Excel document. This part I can do if I can
get over doing the first few steps of getting to this page and performing
the search.

Anyway, here is some of the code I am using:

Sub AcquireData(ByVal browser As WebBrowser)
' the parameter browser has already been set up to connect to the URL
which

contains the I Agree button

' set up the document object for the web page
 Dim doc As System.Windows.Forms.HtmlDocument
' use the HTMLElement object if necessary
 Dim Element As System.Windows.Forms.HtmlElement

 doc = browser.Document
' now, here is where I need the help:
' 1. Find the I Agree button on the page
' click on the I Agree button to bring up the search page
' find the search field for the ID# on the new page
' enter the search ID# (which my application acquires in another
subroutine)

' Once the new page comes up, I have the code to process the table on
the page and deal with the data
Call ProcessTable( browser )

End sub

Thanks for any help, suggestions, or references. Since this is rather a
specialized topic, you can reply to me off list at:

 Hi Allen,

First get into your default configuration manager, then open user options,
then tab over to insert key mode and check that box, tab to okay and press
enter, then press control s to save your changes, then press alt + f4 to
close and you are done. I'm sorry about giving these directions in this
manner knowing that you are using only 1 hand, but this is the only way
 that
I could explain it to you. Take care and have a nice week-end.

Annette is however absolutely right.

It depends how important reading books and large documents are for you. I
paid £550, that is over $1,000 for my scanner a duplex Canon DR2580 and it
has been worth, believe me, every penny.

In the past week alone I have scanned 1,400 pages of law books that I need
to read and reference for my course. Over the last year I have scanned
thousands of pages of other books.

The way I work is to buy the book and then tear out the pages to put through
my document scanner. Some people find tearing out pages of sometimes new
books upsetting but they are useless to me in print. Where ever I can I buy
second hand books.

Using this method I require no sighted help and can scan say a 300 page book
in less than 30 minutes. Believe me a slow non duplex or flatbed scanner
is simply not up to this and paying money for such kit is a waste of money
if you need to do serious amounts of reading. A lesser scanner is fine for
the occasional letter or small document if that is all you need or want to
do. Reading books however is a different ball game.

I am determined to access books as much as any sighted person and using a
decent scanner removes the necessity to employ or find sighted assistance.

Finally I'll mention again that the best OCR I have ever used is the
Microsoft Office Document Scanning. It continues to out perform Kurzweil
etc.

Regards

David Griffith

If you decide to look for a new scanner, there are a few duplex capable
models you might want to consider. This means that when using the sheet
feeder, the scanner will read both sides of the page at one time. These
scanners are in the $1000 to $1500 range. These are not to be confused
 with
the high speed scanners that cost $4000 to $7000. I believe that Cannon,
Kodak and Fujisu all have models in this lower price range.

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Open Book 8 Scanners?

 Hi Patricia,
I would check the HP website for updated drivers for the scanner, and see
 if
there are any firmware revisions as well.
As far as Openbook 8, I would check the FS website scanner page for
 compatibility.
Hold on to that scanner for long as you can, legal size scanners are not
 cheap these days.
You might also consider anMFD, multi-function device, or scanner with a
 document feeder.
I am currently useing an MFD with a document feeder, and it will handle
longer sheets of paper, although, I am not sure of the exact width.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Open Book 8 Scanners?

 Hi list,

Was reading over the new info on Open Book 8 and since I use the last
version 7.20 with an HP/6300P legal size scanner, I was wondering if
anyone on the list uses this particular scanner or could suggest a
 better one?
It still works, but lately it is making some funny sounds. I also from
time to time have to reinitialize the scanner for some reason this
happens and when I go to use OB a message pops stating no scanner is
 detected...
Also, I have to make sure the Prefetch folder is emptied out from time
to time as another message pops up stating, not enough disk space
 available.

Can anyone offer any help on these matters? I am using xp pro, jaws 8.

 Thanks,

 Patricia

Yes you'll have to make the adjustments with insert v, go down the list
 to
see what you want to be checked or not.
 hope this helps.

 Hi,
That's correct except, if that checkbox is not checked, press the space
 bar
 to check it.
 I hope this helps,
 Jeffrey

 Hi Allan.

The Sticky Key mode is in the configuration manager. Start the
configuration manager and press control shift d to enter the default file.
then press alt s for the set options menu, then enter on user options.
 Tab
through until you find the insert key mode checkbox and press enter. Then
press control s to save and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.
