Re: [Blind-Computing] BIG TROUBLE, DESKTOP PROBLEMS
To add to the mystery, all I was trying to do was create a folder in my wife's name. As David mentioned, all of the files in that My Documents folder were apparently highlighted at the same time. Jaws didn't warn me and I ended up renaming almost 50 files and folders with Linda's name. Thanks to David and Patty, we figured out what had happend and I had to go back and rename every single file and folder. What a mess! The hints about quickly accessing the rename function using F2 was very helpful. Here's an interesting bit of computer strangeness. Each folder had Linda's name but they were numbered sequencially. So, I got Linda1 through Linda48. My thanks to David for his rescue efforts. I took care of this little issue last evening over the phone. What John did was accidentally rename an entire group of files at the same time instead of just the single file that he wanted to change. Re: [Blind-Computing] BIG TROUBLE, DESKTOP PROBLEMS
When you're in one of those actual 'renamed' folders, and you go to the address bar by, for example, tabbing around, have the things actually been renamed, or are they just being 'described' using a global variable/value? For example, where there is a 'folder'/area called 'My Documents' on my computer, it's actually an alias for C:\documents and settings\jacobk\my documents. Also, if you browse to various parts of the 'file structure' you will find things like 'Jacobk's documents' etc. etc. Basically just wanted to know if the folders have actually been physically renamed, or whether the computer is just 'reporting' the wrong thing to you? (FWIW, that sort of incremented name structure is something that we used to use/experience in the old days of MS DOS when we had to rename various things/groups of files for some forms of software upgrades etc., and although I can't remember too much I think it was sort of an 'automatic' rename-happening if you 'implemented' something that wasn't 100% right in terms of renaming using wildcard characters like *, ? etc. etc.) Stay well Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype ID: BlindZA - Original Message - From: "John Justice" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "BLIND COMPUTING MAILING LIST" Sent: Friday, August 24, 2007 12:44 AM Subject: [Blind-Computing] BIG TROUBLE, DESKTOP PROBLEMS > Somehow, inadvertently, I re-labeled a folder which is creating some > serious > problems. > > Now, when I bring up My documents, everything comes up with my wife's name > and a number.
