[Blind-Computing] Restoring Video Driver

2007-09-16 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
I use JAWS version 8.0 on my wife's Acer computer running Windows XP when I
have to check things out or repair something for her. The other day when I
booted Jaws on it to check something out I get the old video intercept
error message with an option to reinstall it. It will not let me do it even
after rebooting the machine. JAWS seems to work ok but what I discovered
was the video driver on her machine has somehow become corrupt.

Here's the question, how do I restore or fix that from her system recovery
discs without reinstalling the entire restore?

thanks
Al

Hi Al,
Check to see if you have an entry in the programs list in the start menu,
for system recovery.
There may be a selection there to restore drivers.
Usually, this can be done from the recovery partition if your system has one.
There are usually options to only re-install certain components, without
re-installing the entire
system.
Outside of that, visit the video manufacturer's website, and download a new set
of drivers for your
display.
Optionally, you could un-install the display adapter, and let Windows re-detect
it on re-boot, and
re-install the drivers.
When dealing with video, or display issues, most certainly you will be without
Jaws, but Narrator
can be used to re-install the video intercept.
