[Blind-Computing] confused about output plugins

2012-10-01 Thread susan
Hi everyone,
I have a Winamp question. In reviewing the instructions for changing the Winamp
volume independent of the screenreader, I realized that I have the Direct Sound
rather than Wave Out as my output plugin. I use both Total Recorder and
Replay-AV and have never been quite sure which output plugin works best with
these kinds of configurations. At any rate, I went to the Winamp page and
became frustrated trying to search for Wave Out. Is there an easy way to get it
and how do I know whether I really need it? Many thanks.

Susan

Re: [Blind-Computing] Confused as to which Jaws version I should install

2009-03-30 Thread Jacob Kruger
Well, unless you're using a 64 bit version of windows, the 32 bit of the
normal (not thumb drive) of jaws 10 is pretty much the only one that'll work
for you.

If you don't have any SMA upgrades remaining though, it'll only run in demo
mode, but that should be fine for using along with iTunes occasionally.

Stay well

Hello all. While checking the Freedom Scientific site I saw
that I could download Jaws version 10 because it works with Itunes.
However, since I am currently using Jaws 9.0.5 along with Windows XP I'm
confused as to which version of 10 I should install.

The website says I should install
10.0.396 although the only versions I saw were

. JAWS 10.0.1142 32-bit - March 2009 English (80.7 MB - HTTP download)

. JAWS 10.0.1142 64-bit - March 2009 English (84.1 MB - FTP download)

. JAWS 10.0.1142 64-bit - March 2009 English (84.1 MB - HTTP download)

. JAWS 10.0.1142 USB Thumb Drive Downloads

. JAWS USB Thumb Drive FAQs

. Non-Tandem builds

list end

Would someone please tell me which version I should install. Thanks in
advance.

Re: [Blind-Computing] confused;

2007-12-12 Thread Jason
You can only use a data or audio cd ater you close (or finalize) the session
that contains the ingo you want to use or listen to.
Data cds will never work on a standard cd player; they are formatted diffently
during the write process.
And cdrw disks, regardless of claiming they are an audio or data cd, will not
work on a standard cd player.
Hope that makes sense; i should know if i use nero burning rom.

Re: [Blind-Computing] confused;

2007-12-11 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Sharon,

Almost any CD-R you buy will give you the ability to create audio CD's, it's
just a matter of being able to tell what ever software you are using that
you wish to create an audio CD, and it will take any tracks you wish to burn
onto a Cd and convert it to a dot CDA format, which is what the files look
like on an audio Cd.

Most CD's, especially audio CD's will allow you to burn anywhere between 19
to 22 songs on it.

These songs or audio tracks should not exceed a total of 70 minutes, 80
minutes, depending on the length of CD you purchase.

Good name brands to buy are Sony, maxell, TDK and/or Mitsui.

The one thing you should ask the dealer of the CD's you are buying is
whether the dye on the CD is silver on silver.

Most Cd's nowadays come with the silver on silver dye on it already, but
some less reputable dealers will try to push, or place on sale, Cd's with
different colour dyes on it.

To ensure that your audio CD's will play on all Cd players, you should
purchase silver on silver CD-R's.

You can buy CD-RW's, however, once you create the audio CD, you will have to
finalize the CD, and it might make the CD-RW unrecordable after the burn
process.

Just so you know, CD-RW's are CD's that you can write to over and over
again, just like a floppy disk. The only trick is that you must create data
CD's when burning files to a CD-RW.

On the other hand, Cd-R's are CD's that you can only burn once, or several
times, depending on whether you close the CD or not. Closing may also be
referred to as finalizing the CD, it will depend on what term your software
uses to describe this process.

Once the CD is closed/finalized, you can no longer burn any other files onto
it's surface, so you must make sure that all the files you burn onto the Cd
are there.

With a data Cd, you can burn between 700 and 800 megabytes of storage space,
which equals a heck of a lot of songs, usually in the range of 150 to 225
tracks.

Hope this helps.

Victor

Re: [Blind-Computing] confused about CD media

2007-12-11 Thread David Ferrin
That's a better subject line, but now back down to business. A disk with MP3
files for example is considered a data CD. Some modern home CD players and
even car units will play such disks, unfortunately the unit I own myself
won't. No stand alone CD player will be able to access any disk with let's
say a Microsoft word document on it. Those are the facts my friend as I know
them at this time.

Re: [Blind-Computing] confused;

2007-12-11 Thread David Griffith
A CD-R can be both a data CD or an Audio CD. It is indeed possible to
mix data and audio information but it is probably best to avoid doing this
as it can be technically difficult.

Basically you tell your burning software whether you want a data or audio CD
and it will copy files of appropriate format.

A normal audio CD player will only recognise audio information in
uncompressed forma such as the CDA or WAV file types. When you tell your CD
burning software to make an audio cd - this is the format it will burn onto
a audio CD. Nero for example will uncompress an mp3 track and convert it
into a CDA track to burn onto a CD. This is then recognised by an audio
player. Most audio players will not recognise an mp3 file for example though
increasingly this capacity has been built in.

Unless you tell your burning software to create an audio CD then what you
will burn will be data which will be recognised by your computer as if it
was any other disc drive. So using a CD R for back up is fine also.

Regards

David Griffith

Subject: [Blind-Computing] confused;

Why is it, then, that a data cd will not play in a conventional cd player;
if I make a cd or shall I say an audio cd, it will play in my cd players;
however, the data cds that I make will only play on my computer and will not
play in my players; what's up with that?
