I can't verify this, but I was once told that gold foil fit on the window will act somewhat as a one way mirror letting in light but reflecting the outside back befuddling peepers. Re: [BlindHandyMan] replacing brick
Jennifer, Take a good look all over your property for random matching bricks. You may find them in flower bed borders, in a ruble pile at the back of the yard, propping something up in the garage. I have found bricks from the townhouses where I live, all over the property. Someone puts in a larger window and uses the bricks as a flower bed border. A chimney got struck by lightening and blew it apart, raining bricks down into the courtyard. Many of them just got kicked off into corners. so, your matching brick may be just laying around. also, if other houses in the neighborhood use the same brick, ask your neighbors, or send the kids out in search of hidden treasure. -- Blue skies. We have not found any matching bricks in the yard yet, but I think a neighborhood scavenger hunt is now in order. :) Jennifer - Original Message - From: Dan Rossi To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, September 12, 2008 9:41 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] replacing brick Jennifer, Take a good look all over your property for random matching bricks. How do I figure out what angle a 14% grade is on a tread mill? I just had a stress test and was walking 3.5 mph at 14% incline. My treadmill goes no where near that. Re: [BlindHandyMan] tread mill incline
Don't know for certain but, 90 degrees is a 100% incline so, 90 over 100 is .9. .9 times 14 is 12.6 degrees. Dan will probably know for sure. If the bed of the treadmill is 60 inches long, a domestic one probably isn't quite that long, then 14% times 60 would be a rise of 8.4 inches. Re: [BlindHandyMan] tread mill incline
Thanks, the walking bed of this one is about 40 inches. it is about 5 foot between the front and rear floor wheels and feet. I need to increase the workout resistance. My heart can take it ok however my back can not. I got a real nice workout at the hospital but can't get one at home. This one only rises about 4 inches and my lower back gives out long before I even start a sweat. So from your math I can try to put 4 inches under the front feet as a starting point. - Original Message - From: "Dale Leavens" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Friday, September 12, 2008 6:33 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] tread mill incline Don't know for certain but, 90 degrees is a 100% incline so, 90 over 100 is .9. .9 times 14 is 12.6 degrees. Re: [BlindHandyMan] tread mill incline
You probably need to vastly improve your abdominal muscles and learn to hold your pelvis into a little more posterior tilt. with the steeper incline you are forced to bend a little more forward thus bringing the pelvis into more tilt and taking your back a little further out of extension. this is what the abdominal muscles are supposed to do for you. But back to our original programme, the important thing is if the distance from the rear of the track to the front of the track is 60 inches then you will need to raise the front of the track about 9 inches higher than the rear. - Original Message - From: "Lenny McHugh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Friday, September 12, 2008 8:57 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] tread mill incline > Thanks, the walking bed of this one is about 40 inches. it is about 5 foot > between the front and rear floor wheels and feet. Re: [BlindHandyMan] tread mill incline
Actually, I was always under the impression that a 45 degree incline was 100% one unit of rise per one unit of run. You calculate percent incline by doing rise over run, then multiplying by 100. On roads, where you see percent grade the incline is usually pretty small, so the run is nearly the same as the length that you drive along the road. A 10% incline would mean that the rise is one tenth of the run. Find the angle by taking the inverse tangent of 1 over 10 = 5.71 degrees. Now, the length of the treadmill is actually the hypotenuse of this triangle. SO, you need to multiply the length of the treadmill by the sine of 5.71 degrees to get the height of the end of the treadmill. 60 inches times 0.099 = a hair under six inches. -- Blue skies. So, does that mean a 50 degree slope is more than a hundred%? I am not used to percentage slopes. - Original Message - From: Dan Rossi To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, September 12, 2008 11:19 PM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] tread mill incline Actually, I was always under the impression that a 45 degree incline was 100% one unit of rise per one unit of run.
