Re: [BlindHandyMan] convert from t12

2010-06-19 Thread Alan Paganelli
Old stage joke my friend. When I was on the road, there was another band
either just leaving or coming in after we left. Their name was the Side
Show. Their thing was they were a very good band but they also did circus
tricks. The drummer would juggle drum sticks and start tossing them to the
girl singer and the guitar player or at least one of them, did magic tricks.
They were all very nice people and we would say something like if you liked
our music our name is bla-bla-bla. If you didn't, it's the side show! Of
course, they did the same thing. You get to know all the people in the
area. When I needed a night off when I was doing singles, there were other
organists I could have sit in for me and we helped each other out even as we
cut their throat. It's just business not personal. They did it to you as
well. If your the sensitive type, you have no business in entertainment.
So some times, old habits die very hard. For me, it's the quick joke or
smart remark. As they say, some people you can take off the stage but
you'll never get the stage out of the entertainer.

[BlindHandyMan] 4 foot led lights

2010-06-19 Thread Lenny McHugh
Just the other day I was looking at the possibility of replacing the kitchen
lights with leds. First they are quite expensive. When my son-in-law was
here last evening he was telling me that at one of the nursing homes he was
actually converting the lights. He had about 25 done when the director came
out. When this guy saw them he went ballistic. The type that was purchased
had an orange glow in the center. After the director was on the phone for an
hour my son-in-law was told to put the lights back. He has no idea what they
are going to do with several thousand dollars worth of lights.
The other interesting thing is that they are on a long strip and will
probably sag in the middle over time.

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Rockwell JawHorse

2010-06-19 Thread William Stephan
I don't have the Rockwell, but I have a Black & Decker Workmate. The jaws
themselves probably open up about six inches, but it's fairly easy to make
extensions if you need wider jaws. The legs fold into the unit, and the
table kind of drops, so it's fairly portable and easy to store. I made a
table for it out of a piece of 3/8 prywood and a 2 x 4, and I use that when
I need a big work surface. Mine was reconditioned, and I think I paid about
$30 for it, and it's been good to me for many years.

fold up for storage and transport. Hope this is helpful.

wood.toolIDay.com has it for $149 plus $6 shipping which is about 25 bucks

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Rockwell JawHorse

2010-06-19 Thread Dan Rossi
I just picked one up today. They were having a special at Lowes, and I
had a gift card. It has three legs, two in front, and one further back
along a rail. The top rail holds two clamping jaws. They can open to
about 24 inches I think. There is a foot peddle that you can use to close
the jaws of the clamp.

The jaws extend beyond the legs so that you can hold items by their edge,
vertically. The picture shows a door being held vertically in place while
the hinges are positioned on the door jam.

The claim is that clamping force is 2200 pounds.

Looks pretty handy.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Rockwell JawHorse

2010-06-19 Thread Jewel
I have just rung one of our local hardware/D I Y retailers and find that they
have the jawHorse in
stock. Its price is 249$NZ which converts to 173 US. It sounds as though it
would be the kind of
"always ready to lend a helping hand" mate that I could use. How does the NZ
price compare to what
it is on your market?

Oh! I have just read the blurb for the Rockwell JawHorse, along with the
