[BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-25 Thread one foxy lady
Hello List,

Well yall may or may not be able to help me with this..
I have a front porch that extends the length of my house and 4 columns to
support the roof overhang which I suspect that is why my neighbor's cats
like to laze away the day on my bench on this porch and they have a dog too
who likes to run back and forth in between the little bushes that sits in a
row in front of the bench on the porch.
I have asked my neighbor to better monitor her pets she works all day and
leaves them outside to roam the neighborhood so my question is how can I rid
myself of these pests.

I like animals but just not unwanted ones..

Thanks,

Hailley

Geno: Haille, If you don't have a fence to enclose the property. You might
want to think of. This will take care of the dog or dogs. Yet, will not
solve the problem of the cats. As, if there is a way and there is they will
be there. As, I had to install a Chain-link fence three sides of the double
lot is 5 feet tall and the front is 4 and even had to go to the extent of
gating the front entrance and the driveway. It solved the problem of the
dogs coming in and doing their business. But the cats forget it. Though, my
guide dog does a far job of keeping them out when he is out side. Still have
to deal with their messes.
I have heard of dog and cat repellent but no nothing of it.
Maybe someone else does?
Good luck on the nice neighbors!

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-25 Thread Boyce, Ray
zone you set and when it does
it will release a 3 second blast of water at sprinkler
speed and power. This blast is enough to keep any
cat away your car, bird feeder, side of your home,
etc. The device will then reset itself and within
10 seconds is ready to blast away again. It has an
adjustable field of view, a foot pad for easy
staking and a pass through hose connection so that
you are able to hook several of them up in series.
It will work 24 hours a day in either light or
dark. When using around cars or autos it is best to
position one about 10-15 feet off of any one
corner. This position will get complete coverage for
two sides of the vehicle. In most cases this is
enough. However, if the local cats have access to
your vehicle from all four sides you might consider
getting two. Positioned at opposite corners you
will have all four sides completely covered. For
keeping away stray wandering cats off structures,
cars and from spraying around your property this
device is probably your best bet.
If you have a fence, house, tree or other part of your
property which cats are using to sharpen their claws,

use
ROPEL LIQUID
to stop them. This product is simply
sprayed on the surface of whatever they are clawing.
It tastes terrible. Cats are constantly grooming
themselves which will let them taste how bad the
Ropel is. Cats will quickly learn to leave anything
treated with Ropel alone. If the object you are
needing to keep them away from will not readily
accept the liquid such as some furniture inside the

home, use the
REPEL AEROSOL
instead. All it takes
is a light misting and cats will stay away from
where you spray it. This is a great material for
inside the home where pets are targeting furniture,
window treatments, rugs, etc. Use it every day if
needed for a few days to a week and your pet will
cease the unwanted behavior.
Another problem that develops when cats are
active around a property happens when they mark or
leave scent trails on trees or flower beds. This
smell is offensive and will linger for long periods
of time. Once they start this behavior, it will
almost always lure more cats which in turn add
their own scent. Before you know it, there is a
stink that refuses to go away! In fact, the smell
seems to get worse right after a rain. This is
because of special bacteria which is part of their
odor. This bacteria requires moisture to live
and will "feed" itself if left untreated. To remove
this odor as quickly as possible, use a special

enzyme called
DAWGON ODOR NEUTRALIZER.
Although this
product is mostly used for dog or cat urine and
feces, it works well at breaking down strong scent
markings from cats. It may take a few treatments,
but the enzymes will work to break the odor down
so that it won't be as offensive or lingering
as normal. The key to getting success when using
Dawgon is to try to get it applied as directly on
the scent or markings as you can. To help find

exact locations, use our
BLACK LIGHT.
This can
be used inside or outside, under dark conditions,
and will reflect where the cats are leaving their
odors. Once found, you are able to treat them
directly which will enable you to get the best
results.
If the nuisance cat is wild or feral and needs to
be trapped, there are two models which will work

well for catching them. The
LT111230
is the easiest
to use and works well for most applications. If you
believe the cat is unusually large or strong, you may
need to go with the bigger model
LT111236.
It is
slightly longer and the cats are more comfortable
entering due to the bigger size. Both traps feature
opening rear door's for easy animal removal; the LT111236
is available with a sliding door as well which is
really helpful if you are trying to transfer the
trapped animal to a holding cage.
When using live traps, you need to set them where
you know the cats are active. Since cats are wary
animals, using a can of cat food isn't always going
to get them in the trap. We suggest setting a can of
fish flavored cat food in the back of the trap, behind
the trip pan, and centered. You can also use any other
foodstuff you know they like to eat which could include
anything around the yard you have seen them consume.
However, to make sure they find your trap in the first

place, place some of our
CAT PASTE
on the trip pan
first. About two tablespoons, smeared on the trip
pan, will release enough smell to lure any cat over
to the trap and once they see the offering inside
they will readily enter.

Nuisance cats can be a problem. Wild cats
should be trapped and either relocated or
destroyed - depending on local ordinances.
Local cats which use your property for
defecating, chewing or stalking can be stopped

 sun helps to
break odor areas. However, this could take several
months. If you treat with Dawgon, the odor will
quickly dissipate. Use it on cement, buildings, lawn
areas, pine straw, crawl spaces, dog kennels, fence
rows and anywhere dogs or cats have been going.
This product will work best when it's applied directly

to the scents and this can sometimes be hard to
locate. Use our
PORTABLE BLACK LIGHT
to help find
exact locations of urine and fece odors. Simply turn
it on during low to no light conditions and the
light will reflect just where the scent is located
which will inform you of where you need to apply
Dawgon. This will help you get the results you want
all the more quickly as well as save in product usage
by minimizing wasted applications. Another product to

consider using is
LAWN GREEN.
This is essentially a
biodegradeable paint which has been designed to be
applied over turf and other plants for the purpose
of masking damage due to fungus, urine and drought.

Mix it up in any of the
SPRAYERS
we have listed for
its application and you will be able to conceal
the damage urinating dogs have caused. Treatments
will usually last 4-8 weeks which is enough time
for new plant growth to replace that which has been
damaged.
Wild dogs which are killing livestock and posing
a threat to people need to be trapped. It is a shame
to see this happen, but more and more animals find
themselves abandoned and having to find food any
way they can. These dogs may become desperate and
dangerous. If you have such a dog or a pack of dogs
in your area which are causing problems, there are
several live traps which can be used to catch
them. For small animals up to 25 lbs, you can use

our
NH2361
or our
LT151842.
The NH2361 is good for
short animals; the LT151842 is better for animals
which are taller and slender. For animals 45 lbs to

75 lbs, use our
NH6602
or
LT152248.
The NH6602 is
better for shorter animals; the LT152248 is better
animals which are taller and slender. Any animals
much over 75 lbs should be trapped with one of our
large traps. Though the mid sized design may work,
a trap too small could lead to the dog escaping. This
bad experience will teach most any dog to avoid
traps in the future and trap shyness would likely
prevent future live trapping. Use either our

NH6701
or
LT202872.
Both will do the job; the
LT202872 is slightly taller and longer but the
NH6701 would be a better option if the animal
is known to be unusually tough or vicious. Use beef as
bait and visual attractant. To get animals close to
and inside the trap, use a combination of our

CANINE BAIT.
These concentrated baits are designed
to be used in tandem. The Long Distance formulation
will get the target dog close to the trap; the
Trap Bait will get wary dogs into the trap. Our
specially formulated scent is too much for any dog
to resist when added to some beef In general,
it is always better to use a trap bigger than needed.
Dogs will always enter a trap which is bigger than
them but rarely one that is too small.

Nuisance dogs can be a problem. Wild dogs
should be trapped and either relocated or
destroyed - depending on local ordinances.
Local dogs which use your property for
defecating, chewing or simply digging in the
ground can be stopped with some of the new
repellent materials available.

You'd be surprised on what you can hit based on noise. I have gotten rid of
neighbor cats and dogs using my son's Daisy Bee Bee gun.

Doesn't really hurt them, just gives them a little sting.

Thanks,

Hailley

I knew a little girl once who was blind from being hit in the eye with a bee

Try one of those little personal alarms. I got Patty to carry one on her key
chain. That little sucker makes the devils own noise all right. I'm sure it

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-26 Thread one foxy lady
hmm..don't think I want to trade pests there with you grins
I'm alittle afraid to do the trap route fear of myself or my property I
already feel as if I'm taken advantage of because I can't see and I already
had a bit of an issue with this neighbor over another issue concerning our
adjoining fence..
she has a couple of boys and one is around 11 and he likes to throw a ball
across from his yard to mine and let family pooch chase it and sometimes his
aim is wrong and it hits my trees and porch or garage door..
when I've called her left messages it clears up for a time then goes right
back maybe I should threaten her to remove the pests as you suggest here..
I hate to do this as much as I hate the problem..I fear at some point in
time there might be an incident that I might need her assistance and if I
have threatened her beloved pets then I'm not going to get any help from her
unlessshe's one of these real forgiving type people..

RE: [BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-26 Thread Jim Ruby
The problem here is being civil and not causing to bad of a rift between and
your neighbors and their pets. Respect can go along way, but if your
neighbor just don't get the hint it is time to call the animal control or
police and they will come out to collect or ketch the animals and fine the
neighbor. If they let them run all day with out being home they may not know
what neighbor called or reported them as this is anonymous and if they are
gong in to more then one neighbors yards then it could have been anyone who
called in or even a routine animal control visit through the neighborhood.

Good luck this can be a very frustrating problem and many times one that
can't help but cause a few hard feelings for a wile on both parties.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-26 Thread Jewel Blanch
Jim! Maybe, you would like to try the following to convince your
chicken-keeping
neighbour to keep them at home.
Jim was, forever, finding his neighbour's chickens in his garden, and all his
requests
that they be kept within their own property fell on deaf ears.
Jim hit upon a plan which involved a quick trip to the local food market.
One morning, his pesky neighbour glanced over into Jim's garden, and saw him
collecting
eggs.
The chickens never again strayed into Jim's garden!
As for the straying horses, Well, sell the manure!

i have the same problem but with horses and chickens.
for something little like that i'd get a live trap and take them to the
local or maybe not so local pound.

Your dried blood meal must be a hell of a lot different to that which Kiwis put
on their
gardens. If you want your garden dug over roughly, just spread some dried
blood, and
voila! the job is done!

hi juel grin well they don't seem to leave eggs but i don't really mind
them as they eat lots of ticks and thats a good thing.

as for those derned horses well selling the menuer well after scraping it
off my shoes a time or 3 i'd just as soon shoot em and turn them in to dog
food.
and i have called them and told them that g.
one time after about 5 horses were over here for about an hour they left
enough poop to fill a kids wagon.
we know because i called them and asked to come over and shovel.
the brought the wagon empty and left with it full.
thanks for a laugh

I like dogs and I have one my self and they have to eat too, but you know
with the price of food as well as every thing els. Why don't you think about
putting them in your own freezer. After all they are a relative of the Deer
and Well people eat venison all the time and most of us think it is pretty
darned good eating.

2006-09-27 Thread Lee A. Stone

Geno, maybe if the Lady installed one of those stuffed barking dogs from
Walmart, one that would not only bark every 5 minutes but would also
produce heavy volumes of gas, then maybe the cats would never return.
Now if the barking and gas producing dog did not do it then of course a
Hancy woman project is in line. inclose the porch with chicken wire and
hang obscene signs all over this now inclosed porch. . if that does not
work. I'd go for the falme thrower. Lee

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

Thanks,

Hailley

mothballs -- pose a hazard to young children. Mothballs can be easily
mistaken
for candy, or simply tempt young children to touch and play with them.
Recent studies have linked naphthalene to illnesses, including nasal cancer.
Widespread
sale and distribution of these products make illegal mothballs a particular
concern.
Mothballs placed out side for pest control is a environmental risk, they
contain naphthalene, when dissolved pollutes water sources.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-28 Thread Ken Hawk
Jennifer, I have a good friend that owns his own pest control business, he's
told me some sad stories about children and Mothballs.
One lady put quite a few in a cedar chest, and her children were playing
hide and seek.
The child got locked in for about four hours, and now has brain damage from
breathing the naphthalene fumes.

Re: [BlindHandyMan] Neighbor's Pets

2006-09-28 Thread Ken Hawk
Hey Guys! I just Googled this one and it's another one of those "it depends
who you talk to" things. Here are some quotes:

" Don't use mothballs made of paradichlorobenzene--the warning label
cautions against "prolonged breathing of vapor," but how can you use
mothballs without
breathing their vapor? The odor of mothballs hidden in a closet can permeate
your entire home and increase to high levels if there is not adequate
ventilation.
The vapors from mothballs are also absorbed by clothing and blankets, and
can be very strong when you use these items."

"There are two different formulations for mothballs. One is NAPHTHLALENE and
the other is PARADICHLOROBENZENE. Both are potentially very toxic. The
naphthalene
type is more toxic. Both vaporize to produce fumes wich can cause toxic
effects on the central nervous system (possible seizures) and the liver.
Naphthalene
can also cause blood disorders (eg hemolytic anemia). "

"Diaper pail deodorizers also contain paradochlorobenzene."

"Mothballs should not be used around birds. Exposures to high concentrations
of vapours of mothballs by humans, especially young children, can also
result
in toxicity"
And then there are these:

"Refined Naphthalene in a flaked form works best for getting into those hard
to reach places. Works effectively against moth infestations."

You can also buy two boxes of mothballs on E-Bay for $5.00.

Oh, and by the way, apparently there is a really hot band out name
"Mothballs"?
Rolling Eyes

There doesn't appear to be a "safer" version out there. I guess I should
tell my mother she should get rid of hers, and now I can say it's not just
because
of the smell!!
