Re: [BlindHandyMan] Off balance upright washer
Hi David, Can you cause the washer to rock by hand? That is, shift it from or too one short leg as happens with a chair when there is something under one leg? If so then adjustment will help. The rear legs are most likely self leveling so it is only the front ones but if it doesn't rock then it is essentially level, one side may be a little lower than the other or the front may be a little higher or lower than the rear but so long as all four feet touch that is not your mean problem. It is more likely that one of the top drum supports is broken or otherwise come free. This happened to ours a couple of years ago. It is a little different to what I had seen before, there are three or four I just forget now and I am not hobbling up to see, but three or four bungee like rubberized straps on mine which bridge the gap between the top frame of the washer and the tub. The tub and motor and transmission are suspended on rods on bearings from the top frame which allows the drum to swing a little. In my case one of the rubberized straps broke so it wasn't damping the vibration efficiently. You could probably do the repair yourself if you can get the part. The methods vary a little for lifting the cabinet top but usually there are clips near the corners under the top which you can press in with a putty knife to release. These just clip over the edge of the top where it curls under over the front panel. They can be easier to release by pulling the top panel along with the rear console forward. This is much like raising the top of a kitchen range. Push the clips in and the top hinges at the rear. The tub lid may begin flapping about so be careful. There are also likely a pair of wires to the switch which disables the spinner when you lift the lid so you would be wise to locate them not to damage them and disconnect the power before opening the machine. Get something to prop the top up and you will locate those straps if that is the method used. The straps are held with bolts so there is no rocket science in that. If you want to check beside the tub you can remove the usually plastic cap, something like a flat hoop I suppose. There are clips at intervals around it which are easily sprung off and lost under the machine. The filler hose is probably attached to that device too but it will let you fish down between the basket and the outer drum. Finding things in there can be tough though as it will get down under the bottom of the basket, you can maybe fish with a bit of a wire but be careful, there is probably a rubber gasket and you don't want to poke holes in it. Hope this is helpful. Re: [BlindHandyMan] Off balance upright washer
A standard washing you balance it by standing in front of the washer, and by grabbing the top back of the washer you pull towards you lifting the rear off the ground a few inches, and lowering it back down. That's how I do mine, this should be done a couple of times a month. - Original Message - From: David Engebretson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2007 8:04 AM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Off balance upright washer I've got a stacking washer and dryer. I'm not sure about all washing machines, but Kenmore's are more or less self balancing. Like I said in an earlier post, lift the rear portion of the washing machine off the ground a few inches and lower it back down and this balances it. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2007 9:47 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] Off balance upright washer What about wedges tapped under the front frame? Re: [BlindHandyMan] Off balance upright washer
David, You'd need to have a level on top the entire stack and see which way it needs to go. If you're lucky, the front will be low and you can raise it up with those front leg screws. or if the rear is low and the front leg screws aren't allready all the way in, you're still O.K. I surely wouldn't try lifting an entire stack from the front, likely to get the dryer on your head. tom To listen to the show archives go to link http://acbradio.org/handyman.html or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday The Pod Cast address for the Cooking In The Dark Show is. http://www.gcast.com/u/cookingindark/main.xml Visit The Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following address: http://www.jaws-users.com/handyman/ Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! If you're lucky, the front will be low and you can raise it up with those front leg screws. or if the rear is low and the front leg screws aren't allready all the way in, you're still O.K. I surely wouldn't try lifting an entire stack from the front, likely to get the dryer on your head. tom [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] To listen to the show archives go to link http://acbradio.org/handyman.html or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday The Pod Cast address for the Cooking In The Dark Show is. http://www.gcast.com/u/cookingindark/main.xml Visit The Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following address: http://www.jaws-users.com/handyman/ Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! If the washer was working fine for a year and is now off balance, I'd pull it or somehow check under it to see if the floor is warping due to a water leak. bob [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] To listen to the show archives go to link http://acbradio.org/handyman.html or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday The Pod Cast address for the Cooking In The Dark Show is. http://www.gcast.com/u/cookingindark/main.xml Visit The Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following address: http://www.jaws-users.com/handyman/ Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! Aloha David, My stacking unit has adjustable legs on the front but the back legs are supposed to adjust automatically. On mine we had to tip the unit forward enough for those back legs to level themselves. You also might want to try calling the manufacturer for instructions. Hi David We had a similar problem with a Hoover Washing Machine and we found one of the four support arms which support the bowl had snapped. Take the front panel off your machine and check to see if all support arms are attached.
