Try rubbing the key on a bar of soap I never tried this but it should clean
out the lock.
I think if you work it with a wet key after that it should free it up good.
If you are concernned about it rusting you could always dry it with a hair
drier when you are done.
Let us know how that works.

I use a graphite that comes in a powder form. I usually will apply it to the
key and insert it into the lock. If the key method doesn't seem to do the
trick, I will take the tube that comes with the graphite spray and spray it
into the lock.

 I have a deadbolt that the key is very hard to insert in to the lock, is
