Hi Jennifer,
the supposed issue with high voltage wires and cancer is just
that, not an ounce of real data to back it up. some bad studies
promoted by people who don't know how to do science, and even
less how to do statistics. Of course many other environmental
issues are so very real, ground contaminationof many sorts and
led paint, but most of those should be covered by any good
inspector.

About the only disadvantage I think might be real to living
anywhere near high voltage transmission lines is the possibility
of electrical noise should you be a short wave radio enthusiast,
or a ham operator. Even then as long as lines are well
maintained shouldn't be a big deal.

We are lucky in this respect about our realtor as we are using a friend of the
family. They, a married couple, have actually been very critical and quick to
point out the flaws in the homes we have looked over. None the less, we will
be having the inspector and a friend of ours who works in home construction
check it out.

Does anyone know what the issue is about high voltage electric wires and
cancer? Any substance to this?

Jennifer

It's perfectly fine if installed correctly. It might seem loose, but it needs
to have some play for wind storms and so forth.

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] house questions

Hey Everybody,

So I have been looking at houses and have not yet found the one. Well, actually
I have put a bid on one, but so did someone else that same day and they got the
house. Anyway, I have some questions about houses in general, and I am hoping
you guys can help me out again.

What do you think about vinyl siding? It always feels loose to me, but I am
told it is just how the vinyl siding is. I am not sure what I think about it.
Are there things that should concern me besides appearance?

What are the worries around retaining walls? Should I be concerned about having
my neighbors yards fall into mine, or mine into theirs?

Basements, I think. One house I like is built on a hill and has half of the
bottom floor underground. You come in the front door on the stair landing. What
should I be concerned about as far as flooding or leaking?

You guys should also talk to me about being sensible. I really like this one
house that is no where near a bus line, and at least half a mile to the nearest
shopping for groceries and stuff. That's half a mile with little kids in tow
too. The house isn't even my dream house or anything. I am just in love with
the back yard.

Jennifer

good for you, you had the common sense and perception and
calmness to see problems and make sure your observations didn't
get lost in enthusiasm.
Way to go!

good luck
