Re: [BlindHandyMan] ice maker problem

2008-07-27 Thread Bob Kennedy
Did you get a service contract with it? If so the parts are free and you only
have to pay the service call and they will replace it for you.

If no service agreement you can get your model and serial number and order a
new ice maker yourself. They are fairly straight forward to install and once
you get the one to match your model and serial numbers it's a matter of remove
and replace. I wouldn't run all of the new wires since they unplug at the
side. You can run the whole set of wires if you like adding extra work, they
go along the side and back and fishing a new harness through will teach the
kids new words you probably don't want them hearing.

I have a Siers side-by-side refrigerator and the ice maker has stopped
making ice all of a sudden. How can this maker be removed and
replaced? The water is still flowing through the door dispenser but no
wateris in the ice maker tray and the motor is not moving. Any help is
appreciated It is five years old and never a problem.

We used to own a Sears with an ice maker. The electrical connections unplug
something like a DB connector. The water connection is not actually a
connection. The water comes out of the end of a pipe that pokes out of the
freezer wall just above the ice maker. I think there were only 3 screws
holding it in. The front cover pops off and there are a couple of gears in
there that drive the fingers around to push the ice out of the reservoir.
That gear gets stripped out because it is made of plastic. A new one cost
me about 2 dollars back in the 80s. The price probably has gone up but it
still shouldn't require you to take out a loan.

Regards.

Lets go with the obvious. There is a lever on the ice maker that tells it when
the bin under it is full. Is that lever in the down position? You may have
already checked this, but sometimes it's the little things that are missed, so
figured I'd ask. Also, what about the water line going to the ice maker? Is it
by chance frozen? I've never seen a line do hat, but have heard it can happen.
