RE: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
David, I had a similar problem one year in which I would start the mower and it would run about 30 seconds and then stop unless you kept pushing the primer. I figured there must have been some dirt or something in there as eventually it righted itself. Hi David, Years ago, I had a very similar problem with my mower. It occurred in the spring immediately after I brought my mower out of winter storage. The service person who checked my mower told me it was old gas. He drained and replaced the gas and the mower has been running well ever since. I might have forgotten to put an additive in the gas when I stored it for the winter. I never forget this anymore. Re: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
I have several mechanic friends and they all recommend a product called Stay. Here is a short funny story. The one friend a small engine mechanic was on a shopping trip with his wife. He was sitting in the parking lot while his wife did the shopping. From his car he was watching a guy mow his lawn. About every ten minutes the mower would stop, and the guy went on the porch to drink a beer. When he finished the mower started with the first pull. This got Chet's attention so he walked over about two minutes before it stopped. When it stalled out Check took a quick look. Here the guy lost his gas cap and replaced with a Clorox bottle cap. Chet then asked the guy if he had an ice pick or small nail and hammer. Chet punched a small hole into the cap. When the mower did not stop the guy was quite upset with Chet. He no longer had the excuse to drink a six pack while cutting the grass. I can not imagine someone running a mower after several cans of beer. Chet did suggest that he purches a new gas cap. -- From: David Engebretson Jr. d.engebret...@comcast.net Sent: Tuesday, August 03, 2010 9:47 AM To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue what type of additive do you use? thanks, david David Engebretson Jr., CTO Peace Weaver Hosting Need web hosting? Re: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
I'd replace the air filter first and see what that buys me. Even the washable filters need replacing every now and then. The engine quits because it isn't getting fuel or air or spark. The way you describe it, it sounds like a dirty air filter blocking off a good supply of air. Not necessarily. If the air filter is to dirty the air isn't getting in the carburetor and loosing the gas cap fools you into thinking it's the cap. Clean or replace the air filter first. Don't get the idea of using drug store alcohol as a substitute. It's about 50 % water and will really mess things up especially when the temperature is below freezing. Regards. Max. K 4 O D S. [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
My mower stops running after a few minutes of mowing unless I open the throttle while I prime it with the little rubber bulb on the side of the carb. This must be a tell tale sign of a specific issue... anyone know what it is? thermometer? clogged primer? need a new motor? thanks, david [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Re: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
sounds like the little holes in your gas cap are clogged. get a small piece of wire and poke all around the cap or maybe down through the top. if that don't work get a new one. but thats to good of a fix to be true but it was the problem on one i had. jim [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Re: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
Had the same problem with my 4 cycle mower, got some spray carbonate cleaner and got the thing running. sprayed the cleaner in the filter. The mower runs like a new one. Believe the float was stuck. Re: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
Actually that could be it. the problem goes away if i loosen the gas cap, too. Thanks, David David Engebretson Jr., CTO Peace Weaver Hosting Need web hosting? Re: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue
Gonna need a few more details for this one. Next time you run it, instead of priming it when it stops, take the gas cap off and put it back on. It's a simple thing, but they can get plugged and create a vacuum. After that, what is different? Did you start buying gas at a different place? Did it just start giving you trouble? When you prime it, does it run smooth while it runs? Does it have adjusting screws on the carburetor? Tell me the rough age, the brand and any maintenance done recently. Then we'll see if we can make any sense of your problem. - Original Message - From: David Engebretson Jr. To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, August 02, 2010 10:26 PM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] mower issue My mower stops running after a few minutes of mowing unless I open the throttle while I prime it with the little rubber bulb on the side of the carb.
