[BlindHandyMan] ordering cabinets from Menards
Hi, I have ordered 3 cabnets from menards and a counter top plus everything to put it all together. It is my understanding all I am going to need to do is: 1. screw the cabnets together 2. place slats on the top of the cabnets and screw the counter top on to the slats. I am told I have to screw the cabnets to the wall, but I do not want to do this in case I wish to move it at a later date. So my questions: 1. is this something easily done or is there things I have not thought of. Btw: these are cabnets that will sit on the floor. I see most of my cabnets in the kitchen are sitting on the wood floor they did not put tile down. Is it ok to place these cabnets on my tile or will it reck it over time? 2. I have two plugins that will be blocked behind the cabnets I am not sure how I want to get access to them. 1. cut holes in the counter and back of the cabnet. I'd hate to spill something then it would be a mess inside the cabnet as well. 2. just running flat heavyduty extention coard the small ones out the sides of the cabnet or out to the top as behind the cabnet is a half wall and have them go in to a serge protecter so appliences can be plugged in. Re: [BlindHandyMan] ordering cabinets from Menards
Hi Jim I suggest you first move the electrical outlets up the wall so you have access to them. As they are generally on a stud tracing it up higher should be easy. Generally instructions come with these types of cupboards but I would be screwing them to the wall if you want to move them later just unscrew them. Out here everything is screwed up using an Allan Key, what I like to do is cut the bend off and put the straight end in a driver drill it is a lot quicker. But start the screws first so you do not cross thread them. Make sure each cupboard is level with the next so the counter top fits correctly. This might mean using wedges to bring each one level with each other. Generally kitchen cupboards fit directly onto the floor and not over tiles could you remove the tiles where the cupboards are going to go then you could also screw the kicks flat to the floor. What type of splash back are you going to have. Sounds like you are going to have fun. Ray He could also get an Allen key bit that is designed to put into a drill. He can get them at Mannards. I think you can get one or you could get a whole bit set that has all the basic sizes. -Original Message- From: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Ray Boyce Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 1:59 PM To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] ordering cabinets from Menards Hi Jim I suggest you first move the electrical outlets up the wall so you have access to them. Re: [BlindHandyMan] ordering cabinets from Menards
If you have any thought and want to take these cabinets you number one don't want to remove any tile. Also most cabinets screwed to the wall are considered part of the house structure and are intended to pe left when moving. So no don't fasten them to the wall. They asked about back splash. If you have the molded style that is curved and part of the top you have nothing to worry about. If it is the style with square corners that is intended to be glued to the wall you will need to fasten it the top with screws through the top and into the backsplash. I would then cut a hole in the back where the outlets are. plug an extension cord in and bring it up to the top whereever you want it. I would attach two or three strips to the back the thickness of the cord so the cabinets will not smash it. So when you move unplug the cords move the cibmets and clean the line along the tile floor and everything is back to normal. Do not plug in an extension cord without cutting a hole. It would un accessable which is a definite code violation.
