[Boatanchors] Let's try the Swan 350 again
I understand that many folks have been unable to access my photos for the Swan 350. My apologies for that. Please contact me directly at "rg...@swbell.net" and I will send them directly to you. Again sorry for the difficulty and many thanks for your interest. 73Bob, WA2CKY ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
[Boatanchors] FS: Swan 350
Dragged a Swan 350 off the shelf the other night to take pictures for another ham. He wanted a different model so I figured I would just go ahead and, while I had pictures, to put it up for sale. I had intended to bring it back to life but, really, I am just not going to get to it. Don't know much about it. Pictures are posted in a Picassa album:Picasa Web Albums - Bob Groh - Swan 350 SSB ... | | | | | | | | | | | Picasa Web Albums - Bob Groh - Swan 350 SSB ...Photos by Bob Groh, Jul 23, 2015 - Pictures of a Swan 350 HF SSB transceiver. Serial #C529243 | | | | View on picasaweb.google.com | Preview by Yahoo | | | | | The serial number is C528243 and it generally seems to be in nice shape. All the controls work nicely including the dial. I do have the matching PS which will be available in a separate listing when I get some time to take pictures. For price, I'm thinking $60 plus cost of shipping. If you want any other information, pictures, etc just drop me a line. 73, Bob Groh, WA2CKYBlue Springs, Missouri ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
Re: [Boatanchors] OT: FW Bell "Current Gun" CG-100D
No manual that I could find but some good info here: http://www.iowacitylist.com/Machinery-/Fw-bell-model-cg-100A-dc-ac-current-gun.HTM This is a standard clamp on ammeter, dc/ac response, two current ranges (10A and 100A). I rather doubt it is very complicated inside. Handy little device which I would certainly use from time to time. 73 Bob, WA2CKY On Monday, September 8, 2014 6:22 PM, Alex [Temple Boatanchors] wrote: Hi, I know this is not really a boat anchor per se, but it is kind of an oldy. So hope you guys don't mind my asking if anybody has any information (specs, user manual, etc) about said model amp measuring clamp? I believe these where popular during the 70s-80s (?), but not really sure how old it is. Could not really find any useful information about this model on the web. Also, anybody know if back in the day these where any good? [Boatanchors] TV-7D/U is SOLD!!
Thanks to all the replies that flooded in after I posted the TV-7. I got more than 8 emails with more than 3 solid 'I will buy it' so, for sure, it is going to someone! All within less than 30 minutes! It would seem that I set my price at the 'killer deal' level (who knew? I didn't) but that is ok - great deal for the buyer and I have one less thing on the to do list. Win/win in my book. Again thanks to everyone. 73 Bob, WA2CKY ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
[Boatanchors] FS: TV-7D/U tube tester for sale
Still trying to (selectively!) cut down the 'herd' in the ham shack and decided that my TV-7 tube tester is a suitable candidate for moving to another home. Pictures in a Picassa album at: https://plus.google.com/photos/115279229771946172442/albums/6053029455939985249 I picked the TV-7 up some years ago, bought a reproduction tube data book (you can see it mounted inside the lid) and basically have done nothing with it since then. I have, in fact, never turned it on! Just one more thing to do on a list that has way too many things on it already. And I have several other tube testers - nothing as nice as this but, again, too many things to do! The TV-7 looks to be in very nice condition, very original and seems to have a wide variety of adapters, etc. In short - it seems to be all there. It weighs a bloody ton (about 20 lbs) and I'll give shipping estimates to anyone who is interested. Price: I'm thinking $70 plus shipping. If interested or if you have any questions, contact me directly. Thanks. 73 Bob Groh, WA2CKY Address good in call book. ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
[Boatanchors] Update on cable for Shure CB41 desk mike
Worked on the cable last night for a bit and the cable is toast. I cut it back several times hoping to find good wire insulation some place but, even going back 12", no good. Then looked at the other end (in the microphone bottom compartment) and the cable wiring there breaks and flakes with the slightest movement. So the cable is absolutely a goner. Finding a good replacement is the only way to go. Bob, WA2CKY ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
[Boatanchors] Looking for replacement cable for Shure CB41 desk microphone
Going through my assorted microphones - cleaning up, checking operation and generally getting them ready to put on the market. Now working on a Shure CB41 desk microphone (circa mid-1970s) (Heathkit sold a version for their radios) and the coiled cable is in pretty bad shape. For some reason, the jacket breaks apart when it is bent and even the insulation on the inner wire(s) are pretty darned fragile. The audio line's (which is covered with a braided shielding) insulation will break off if you just pinch it with your fingers. Really bad. I am going to cut it back 6" or so later tonight and see if it is better farther in but, so far (going up an inch or so), it is not looking good. I can, of course, sell it 'as is' and just tell folks that the cable is bad but I would rather have some alternatives. To that end I am looking for a source for replacement coiled cable for the mike. It has 4 wires total - one wire (shielded) for the audio, one wire for the ground connection and 2 wires for T/R switching. The existing cable is a 'curly' cable which is good but (in addition to the 'falling apart' problem) is pretty darned stiff. I've looked on the web, checked out eBay and Amazon and found a couple of possiblities but I certainly am open to any other suggestions. Thanks for all comments!! 73 Bob Groh, WA2CKY ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
Re: [Boatanchors] Help ID a 1939 Superior VTVM with a large round 7" meter
Ray, A nice picture of your VTVM might help. I have a couple of old one's from the 30's and a picture would help me see if I have something similar. 73 Bob, WA2CKY From: "Ray, W4BYG" To: 'BoatAnchors' Sent: Sunday, March 2, 2014 1:12 PM Subject: [Boatanchors] Help ID a 1939 Superior VTVM with a large round 7" meter I have an old Superior VTVM, 1939 vintage which although is complete, is in pieces. It has a large round 7" meter in a fairly large rectangular cabinet, The parts and cabinet seem to be in good physical condition and is definitely worth restoring. I would love to be able to identify it and find a schematic, so I can rebuild it. Bama doesn't list it. I don't see anything like it on line in a web search. Any old, old, hams around that remember this meter to help me ID it? Anyone know of a source to help ID? Any early 1940's publications that might have an add for it? Your assistance will be appreicated. 73, Ray, W4BYG "The Republic can survive a fool for a president... Re: [Boatanchors] Introducing a friend to Ham Radio
Amen, brothers and sisters! What a nice story. I can visualize all too clearly the line drawings in the old QST magazines showing hams hunched over their glowing radios on dark and stormy nights. How cool. Hey, I bet that dates me a bit!! 73 Bob Groh, WA2CKY From: Kevin McDonald To: Boat Anchors Sent: Sunday, March 2, 2014 7:40 PM Subject: [Boatanchors] Introducing a friend to Ham Radio A friend of mine is a really good auto mechanic and has a community collage degree in electronics and is pretty good at linking up and programming the Parallax electronic kit components. He expressed some interest in ham radio so I thought it about for a while. I ended up giving/lending him a Hallicrafters S-76 receiver with a S-46 speaker. It is a primitive setup but with dual conversion it can perform. The lack of a crystal calibrator and funky band spread makes it somewhat of a challenge. We connected the speaker and some wire in his garage heated by a propane heater during a Texas Norther that dropped temps from 68 this morning to 27 tonight. We picked up some shortwave stations - it turns out that he knows nothing about RF, MC, KC, AM , FM, CW, SSB, nothing... He had searched the Internet and printed out the manual for the S-76. He showed me the schematic and I explained about about old electrolytics etc. The purple glow from the voltage regulator seemed to entranced him. I gave him a bunch of buzz words words to learn about RF, SWL, HAM, etc in general on the Wiki or whatever. I showed him my radios a couple years ago and he seemed to glaze over but next time I think he will look at the HQ-180, BC348, HRO, SW3, SP600, R390A, Nationals, Heathkits... with renewed interest. [Boatanchors] Manual (original) for CE MM-2 Mutliphase RF Analyzer - any interest??
Cleaning house and I found my original instruction manual for the Central Electronics model MM-2 Multiphase RF Analyzer. I hate to just pitch it - if someone would pay me $ 4 to cover postage, I will be delighted to send it their way. Along with a somewhat dog eared original instruction manual (all 2 sheets of it) for a Gonset Super 6 converter. 73 Bob, WA2CKY ___ Boatanchors mailing list Boatanchors@puck.nether.net https://puck.nether.net/mailman/listinfo/boatanchors
[Boatanchors] FS: AN/PRM-10 GDO
More cleaning up the ham shack. Found this rather nice AN/PRM-10 Test Oscillator Set and it is truly surplus to my needs. The PRM-10 is basically a grid dip oscillator which covers 2.5 MHz to 400 MHz with a set of 7 plug in coil assemblies. Pictures are at: https://picasaweb.google.com/115279229771946172442/ANPRM10GDO?authuser=0&feat=directlink Sometime ago, I put in up on the bench. The PS seems to be working fine - I have the proper voltages, tubes light up, etc. However I did not get any flicker on the meter, no indication of a dip when sweeping an LC circuit, etc. I ran out of time (and interest) and put it aside. It is quite nicely built but a heavy beast over all. Frankly I wondered if it might be a very nice base for a homebrew GDO - keep the nice tuning head and meter and the very nice coil set and simply convert the guts to solid state. Overall condition seems to be quite nice - paint is chipped and one corner seam of the box is broken. Anyways if you are interested, please drop me a line off list. Send me your mailing address so I can run a shipping cost estimate. I am thinking of $25 plus cost of shipping - my guesstimate is that shipping will run maybe $25 or less (I think shipping weight will run 20 lbs or so). [Boatanchors] Opinions wanted on what to do with nice Swan 350 & PS
I have a bit of a discussion with myself on how I should proceed with a rather nice Swan 350 and matching PS 117XC that I picked up some 15 years ago. These two are, as near as I can tell, were very lightly used and are in the original shipping boxes. Probably about as close as I am going to get to having a 'new, open the box' experience! I was going to use them but, honestly, I have way to many radios and way too much other stuff to work on. So I will be selling these and my quandry is just how much (if anything) I should do with these before selling them. I would, if I was going to bring them to life, replace all the electrolytic caps in 117XC power supply (and the radio itself) and I would also pull the covers off and lube all the control bushings, etc. However some prospective buyers might very well wish to do 'their own thing' and, more to the point, may not like or approve of what I might do. So the question I would like to present to the group - should I do anything to them before offering them for sale or just take some nice pictures and go for it. If I do some work on them, what should I do? Thanks for all comments.
