Sorry, I forgot - as with all Boost test-suite examples, language extensions MUST be enabled (and also /EHa option for WINNT). Now OK MSVC 7.1 with Boost 1.30 at warning 3 and a few warnings at level 4 (from your test.cpp - lots from the test suite, but this is probably inevitable).
