Re: [Boston.pm] arriving tonight - emergency social meet monday or tuesday?

Was there any consensus on a date (tuesday or monday) and/or a place
for my emergency social meet?
Alas no, Uri seems to have gotten sidetracked preparing a presentation
for last week's technical meeting.

Something in Harvard square might be a nice change of pace? In particular,
of possible interest to some is a science fiction puppet show about the
Standard Model this evening (19h) at The Democracy Center.

RLS I'm at the Harborside Inn starting around 6pm tonight. I won't have a
RLS car, but I'm sure the trolley or cabs will get me places. :)

that is on me. i say we meet on tuesday night at 7pm. i haven't figured
out a place yet but i will. any suggestions are welcome from the list so
send them in.

the harborside inn is near faneuil hall which is full of tourist traps
and expensive parking so i say not around there. our usual place cbc is
possible. so is redbones or even the flatbread pizza place we met at
recently.

thanx,

uri

Other venues in Harvard are Grendel's Den, Charlie's Kitchen and Grafton Street.
Grendel's is somewhat smaller, so it depends on how busy they would otherwise
be.
Grafton and Charlie's both have outdoor seating, but Charlie's is alley-side
with
large umbrella's which would be good since it looks like rain.

none that i'm aware of ['like herding cats']

not that anyone asked, but what about 'big city' in allston? not
exactly the most picturesque part of the city, but then again, that
mostly depends on the perspective of the viewer ...

or even the skellig in waltham? i know waltham is not as public
transportation friendly as cambridge or boston ...

charlie's would be interesting but it is low rent. i don't think
outdoors in mid-may is a fun idea. grendel's i haven't been to in
ages. grafton is a possibility.

2011-05-15 Thread Ricker, William
To my mind, the best reason to dine at Grendel's is to celebrate their historic
supreme court victory for separation of Church State.

(Though some migh perefer to celebrate anglo-saxon arts and letters, or monster
rights.)

But I would agree that's not a compelling reason to take a drinking crowd
there.

one issue with charlie's is space for a group inside. downstairs that
can't be done as it is all small booths. maybe upstairs. we have been to
the sunset in the past a couple of times and it is a good change of
pace. definitely one of the best beer selections anywhere and reasonably
decent food. i would vote for it (and being the leader of vice, i may
just pick it).

So I vote for Tuesday!

Oooo, right. Space could be made upstairs but it would require taking over half
the floor - and Tuesday's they have to clear that area for the DJ (who also
happens to be another former colleague from ITA - I wonder if he might like to
meet Randall ;-)
