"The Omega Man" was a remake of the Price film. The film was to have originally starred Schwartzenegger but was delayed and went through several changes before the Smith version actually got a greenlight. >From what I hear the script started out as a fairly straight retelling of Mathesons story, but ended up incorporating details similar to the Heston vehicle.
