I know we had a few guys that were close to 6' - hell we had an A-gang* that looked like an O-line with names like Sarge, Swazie and Mongo (who was jumped in New London one night by two guys with knives and came away with a cut on his arm and a piece of one of the guys ear). In any case, it wasn't something I had to worry about. I know they had them in the 1980s, one of Dan's friends from high school who was fairly tall joined the Navy and was not allowed to serve on a sub because he was fairly tall. Maybe there was a 6' regulation, the overheads are pretty low - many pipes, conduits and the like throughout the boat so a tall guy would have to spend a lot of time hunched over. We had an XO who was slightly cross-eyed and ran into the pipes so often that at some point he was awarded a football helmet. He was aptly nicknamed Ricochet Rabbit... -- Doug GSV Back on the Ustafish *Axilliary Machinery - they took care of the diesel, hydraulic and compressed air systems as well as the atmosphere control equipment, among other things. ___ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l

(Dan's about 6' (more like 5' 11.5") and he's the shortest guy in that family.) When did the Navy start instituting height restrictions in subs? (Doug?) I know they had them in the 1980s, one of Dan's friends from high school who was fairly tall joined the Navy and was not allowed to serve on a sub because he was fairly tall.
