   Autocompletion fails for files starting with an opening square bracket
 and having closing bracket somewhere in the filename.

I can't reproduce this using bash-4.3.39 on Mac OS X. Please type

complete -r

and try your examples again. If they work, you should file a bug report
with your vendor against the bash-completion package.

Thanks, now the completion works fine, I’ll send a bug to maintainers.

Repeat-By:
$ mkdir temp  cd temp
$ mkdir -p one/{\[bad\]\ folder,\[yet\]\ another\ bad\ folder}

Now try

$ cd oneTAB# cd one/\[   ← should appear

$ mkdir -p \[one\]/{\[bad\]\ folder,\[yet\]\ another\ bad\ folder}

Type

$ cd [TAB   # cd \[one\]/   ← should appear
$ cd \[one\]/TAB← further completions do not work

$ mkdir -p \[two\]/{\[bad\]\ folder,\[yet\]\ another\ bad\ folder}

$ cd [TAB  # cd \[   ← should appear
$ cd \[tTAB  # ← doesn’t work.
$ cd \[twTAB  # ← doesn’t work.
$ cd \[twoTAB  # ← doesn’t work.
$ cd \[two]TAB  # ← doesn’t work.
$ cd \[two\]TAB  # ← doesn’t work.

But if you type

$ cd [twoTAB  # cd \[two\]/  ← should appear

Surprise — this works! However…

$ cd \[two\]/TAB  # ← no further completions work :(
