[Bug gas/12618] New: Can't resolve difference between symbol and start of its own section

2011-03-29 Thread sutefan at aon dot at
http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=12618

   Summary: Can't resolve difference between symbol and start of
its own section
   Product: binutils
   Version: 2.21
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: gas
AssignedTo: unassig...@sources.redhat.com
ReportedBy: sute...@aon.at

Preprocessed source to reproduce build error

I think I've hit a bug in recent binutils compiling eglibc 2.13 for generic
i686-unknown-linux-gnu (with multi-arch support enabled). At some point in the
build it stops with:

../sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/strcmp.S: Assembler messages:
../sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/strcmp.S:90: Error: can't resolve `.text' {.text
section} - `strcmp' {.text section}

From what I know, it tries to compute the difference between the address of the
symbol strcmp (in the .text section) and the start of the .text section but
fails. Even if there where multiple sections named .text this should work, I
presume.

The error does not occur with earlier versions of binutils (tested with
2.19.51.0.14 and 2.20.51.0.12). The error does occur with 2.21.51.0.7.

The file in question is attached (as preprocessed source), and the error should
be reproducable with something like

i686-unknown-linux-gnu-as strcmp.s

If you need more information to investigate, please let me know.

[Bug gas/12610] gas calculates wrong difference between two labels

--- Comment #4 from Richard Henderson rth at gcc dot gnu.org 2011-03-29

Confirmed. The label is getting attached to the end of the alignment,
rather than the beginning. Examine the following with and without the
fixme label:

.text
unop
unop
unop
unop
$LEHB25:
jsr$26,_Unwind_Resume
$LEHE25:
$fixme:
.align4
fnop

.data
.long$LEHE25 - $LEHB25

Somewhat amusingly, we get the correct answer *with* fixme present.

I have some vague rememberance that the old coff assembler had some
sort of auto-alignment feature, which got copied into the elf assembler.
I suspect this is what is causing the problem.

[Bug gas/12296] cortex-m3: SVC is not permitted on this architecture

update ARM_AEXT_V7_ARM macro to include ARM_OS_EXT flag

This also affects target arm-none-eabi. Like Claudio, I am also trying to
compile FreeRTOS.

It looks like the v7 processor profile (which the Cortex-M3 is an example of)
neglects to mark the os extension as being available.

I attached a diff against CVS that fixes this issue for me. The patch updates
the ARM_AEXT_V7_ARM macro to also include the ARM_OS_EXT flag. I believe that
all v7 processors have the SVC instruction (based on the v7-M and v7-AR
reference manuals).

$ echo 'svc 0'  /tmp/x.s
$ arm-none-eabi-as -mcpu=cortex-m3 /tmp/x.s -o /tmp/x.o
$ arm-none-eabi-objdump -d /tmp/x.o

/tmp/x.o: file format elf32-littlearm

[Bug ld/12621] New: ld plugin cannot be built for mingw by cross compiling on Linux or other Unix-like system.

The autoconf script of ld test the header Windows.h other than windows.h.
This should work on Windows because its file system are not case sensitive.
However, when cross compiling ld on Linux or other Unix-like system, it cause
Windows.h test failure, result in linker plugin not available.
