I had to make changes to the vms/build_vms.com file and vms/config.h to make CVS compile and link. I cannot really provide a patch for this, as removing these functions will break CVS on earlier version of VMS. cvs 1.11.2: security issues
Hi,
While looking for security problems in cvs-1.11.2, I found
a few issues:
1) Heap underflow in pserver. From cvs-1.11.2/src/subr.c:

When this is passed a string of zero length (which an attacker
can arrange, by putting a null byte at the start of the repository
string in a pserver connection) it accesses the character
before the start of str, and changes it to a null if it's a
newline.
I don't think this is exploitable on FreeBSD where I tried it,
but I can think of ways to implement malloc that would make it
exploitable for arbitrary command execution.
2) No check for ':' in usernames. From cvs-1.11.2/src/server.c:

So a username like foo:* could match more of the line in the
password file than it should. I can't think of a scenario
where that causes a problem, but it's still worth fixing IMO.
3) The assert() macro is used to prevent buffer overflows in a
few places. This is a bit fragile since on FreeBSD the assert()
macro does nothing if the NDEBUG preprocessor symbol is set.
An example from cvs-1.11.2/src/server.c:

Under UK copyright law, the opposite is true: If copyright is
claimed for more than two consecutive years, then they MUST be
specified as a range to be legally valid.

I've no idea whether the UK has signed the stated convention, but one
point was repeatedly emphasised in a copyright case in which I was
present back in November 2001: If there is no notice stating the year
for which copyright is claimed, then the whole idea of copyright is open
to fraud. The decision as far as that case is concerned was that for
copyright to hold, the item must include a statement that includes the
most recent year for which copyright is claimed.
My understanding is that the following bash script prints a copyright
notice that is both full and sufficient as far as both UK and US law
is concerned, and also puts the software under version 2 of the GPL
(assuming appropriate definitions of the environment variables TITLE
and AUTHOR for the software in question):

Note that under UK law, it is NOT valid to refer to a licence that has
