bug#59205: ‘guix help’ output is partly untranslated

2022-11-12 Thread Julien Lepiller
Saluton!

The pot generation process for translations at weblate is separate from
the one for Guix. The pot in Guix is outdated and not updated
automatically.

It seems that the rules for generating the pot changed in Guix, but I
don't use them for generating the pot files in the translation repo.
That is because I don't want to run configure, make and risk something
breaking because of an ABI change, just for translations. I updated the
generation process and ran an update. The pot file in the translation
repo now has the missing strings and they should appear at weblate in a
few hours if all goes well :)

Hi,

I've got the same issue while packing cl-graph which has cl-containers as
one of the inputs. It's fails exactly the same where it can't assess
cl-containers FASL file.

This could be a manifestation of https://issues.guix.gnu.org/58732. With
the latest installer version there is a core-dump uploader which will
help diagnosing those issues.

The latest installer offers a core-dump upload mechanism that should
help diagnosing this issue. Any chance you could try again with
https://ci.guix.gnu.org/build/1689729/details, or later :)?

Installer now reports failing partitioning commands and offers to re-run
them or keep things going. This should cover your request.

bug#59200: ASDF build system/sbcl doesn't build FASLs on some packages

2022-11-12 Thread ykonai via Bug reports for GNU Guix

guix shell sbcl sbcl-uuid --pure -- sbcl --eval '(require :asdf)' --eval
'(asdf:load-system :uuid)'
#:
  Error opening
#P"/gnu/store/in6ndcrnqg9pp2glkbvl1s072zp7r34y-sbcl-uuid-2012.12.26-1.e7d6680/lib/common-lisp/sbcl/uuid/uuid-tmpGHU3ALSV.fasl":

Read-only file system

The issue seems to be that the sbcl-uuid package has an empty
lib/common-lisp/sbcl/uuid directory: the FASL files don't get built.

The build log shows everything is fine
https://ci.guix.gnu.org/build/1670426/log/raw so I believe this has to
be an issue with the asdf-build-system/sbcl itself. It also seems to
affect a number of packages, including from what I've seen: sbcl-numcl,
sbcl-lack, and sbcl-mito. It doesn't seem to be a missing #:asd-systems
argument either (the .asd file is loaded fine per the build log).

irc conversation about the bug on #tropin on Libera:

```
jgart: symlink-manager have cleanup-symlinks procedure in it, which cleanups
dotfiles from previous generation. just declare a new home-environment with
empty list of services and add only symlink-manager to essential-services,
after that do a reconfigure and everything except ~/.guix-home will be cleaned
up
abcdw_: cool! could we make a subcommand from that? guix home uninstall or
similar.
We recently added several error reporting mechanisms to the installer,
any chance you still have the hardware around and would be able to test
again using the latest installer image:
https://guix.gnu.org/en/download/latest/.
That would be really helpful for us :)
This one is similar to:
  https://issues.guix.gnu.org/53225
  https://issues.guix.gnu.org/53381
It has to do with the fact that “wg-quick up” blocks until it succeeds
and that ‘invoke’ gets stuck on ‘waitpid’ until the “wg-quick” process
terminates.
The solution will be to use something non-blocking instead of ‘invoke’;
I’m looking into it.
Before I try it on a production system :-), does anyone have a tip on
bug#52767: Unexpected problem with Guix System installer
2022-11-12 Thread Mathieu
Hi Mathieu,
Good news about the new features of the installer, thanks for your work! I
rarely use that machine but I am now wondering if I haven't managed to install
Guix on it, in the end. If that is correct, and working fine, I doubt I will
reinstall from scratch, but if it is not running Guix already, then I will let
you know when I try again (it may be in weeks or months though).
That machine was supposed to be my test bed before deciding if I could migrate
my main hardware to Guix, which I did a few months later.
Cheers,
Mathieu
