I can't read all this properly right now as I'm in a hurry BUT

Not so long ago Alex accepted a merge request of mine into guile-hall and
it was about a dependency on guile-config that Alex had forgotten to
declare in his configure.ac file

It's here
https://gitlab.com/a-sassmannshausen/guile-hall/commit/bd698246b4a87cc96afc4e3752944f1fd6d24f6a

I think this might be related

Alex made some further integrations in guile-hall since then and he means
to release a new version soon

I'm sorry if this isn't the place to write about this

My Tryton service doesn't get stopped either

Here's a picture I took from a virtual machine
https://imgur.com/a/LJ2Cq

When I run Tryton myself, I use this line:
trytond -c trytond.conf

this command doesn' t return a prompt
So, in order to stop Tryton I simply press Ctrl-C

In the definition of my sevice, I use
#~(make-kill-destructor)

to stop the Tryton service

But I copied this from other services, I don't know what
"make-kill-destructor" does

My Trytond service is not working anyway, I launch a vm with my service
running in it, I test it with the client, I see it doesn't work, I stop it
and then I'd like to launch it by hand to see something more

But then, because a tryton-real daemon is still running, the socket for
that address is already bound, as you can see in the picture

Of course this has nothing to do with the Postgresql not stopping bug, I
was only giving some context

no, you're right, the network might be working

I should test a browser

It surely works in the vm produced with "guix system vm-image..."

But it may be working with the vm created with "guix system vm" too

bug#29965: Warning: vlan0 is not connected to the host network

2018-01-03 Thread Catonano
I managed to use system vm-image instead of system vm and I have to say it
fares better

I can fiddle with qemu switches and I managed to allow my virtual machine
to reach out on the network,

The machine is faster and less awkard, the terminal background is dark
instead of sun bright

So this bug is not urgent

But I still think this is a bug. system vm is a Guix feature and the
machine it provides should be able to get on the network, I think

Good news !

adding the mingetty service I get this

: error: invalid field specifier

when calling guix system vm

Also, I fiddled with the mingetty service line, to no good

I read here that mingetty should be in the %base-services ?

https://www.gnu.org/software/guix/manual/htmlhttps://www.gnu.org/software/guix/manual/html_node/Base-Services.html#Base-Services_node/Base-Services.html#Base-Services

Anyway, I tried without --expose=$HOME \ and it works

bug#29934: in virtual machines the graphical dektop environment randomly fails to show up

2018-01-01 Thread Catonano
I created a virtual machine with this command

./pre-inst-env guix system vm ~/configs/vm-config-desktop.scm \
   --image-size=10GB \
   --expose=$HOME \
   --share=$HOME/tmp=/exchange

I run this virtual machine with this command

/gnu/store/zlnjsjgw8d0b6p1p7c3dbh4g6x80mrq6-run-vm.sh

Sometimes the graphical login screen comes up

Sometimes it doesn't and a login form in a terminal gets proposed

This happens randomly

bug#29933: can't login in a virtual machine

I can't login in the virtual machine I created

I used this line

./pre-inst-env guix system vm ~/configs/vm-config-desktop.scm \

   --share=$HOME/tmp=/exchange

In the resulting virtual machine, a graphical login manager pops up

I type "root" as user, empty password
the login starts but then the screen stays black and after a while the
login screen pops up again

This is where I am

computers need manteinance

This could be a sign that your computer needs a refreshing of its thermal
grease and a cleaning of its grates.

Usually when you do that, it becomes an almost new machine and can compile
lots of stuff. That's my experience, by the way.

Another thing you could do is wait for a better building servers park to be
available for Guix

Rekado has mentioned that an improvement is in the pipe, to be delivered
soonish

With that you could find way more binaries ready for use and you won't need
your own computer to compile them

Ludo is way more competent and informed than I am, though, so he might have
some better suggestion.

I'd love to help with testing the Gnome desktop

The reason why I abstain is because if the desktop environment turns out to
be broken, like in this case, I wouldn't know how to work around that

I'm lost in the command line, I'm not even sure I could manage to access
the so called consoles or that I could open an alternative desktop
environment

If I had a spare computer I would use that.

Unless using a qemu based virtual machine is a good enough solution

If it is, then here I am

Send me an email, indicate me a branch and I'll test it

There's a workaround for Icecat hangs. You have to set the skia rendering

Something like

gfx.canvas.azure.backends = skia
gfx.content.azure.backends = skia

This has been discussed in the past, see here
https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2017-02/msg00972.html

There are more mentions of skia, just search the mailing list archive

bug#26199: claws-mail needs to be built with libenchant support

I would try without the "--debug"" part

Just launch it with

claws-mail

then, repeat the steps that produce the error

When the error is reproduced, some meaningful output could show up in the
terminal

one thing you can do is launching Claws-mail from a terminal rather than
clicking on its icon

That way you can see the log and if there are any errors/warnings, you can
copy and paste them and report them

bug#26006: [Website] Integral update proposal

2017-03-07 Thread Catonano
Overall, I like all your proposals.

The one I like best is the proposal about packages. I hope I won't hurt
your feelings if I state that the new layout makes the packages thing
somewhat similar to the "Software" application in Fedora.
And I think that a degree of resemblance is good both for GuixSD and for
the users.

Too bad there's this roadblock due to csv but I really can't help with that

Thanks for your work !

bug#25958: missing cursor icons in Gnome

2017-03-03 Thread Catonano
If you try to drag an application to the floating bar on the left in Gnome,
the Gnome Shell will crash, it will be started again and you will have to
login again

I first reported this here
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/help-guix/2017-02/msg00128.html

Installing adwaita-icon-theme didn't help

I use the Gnome terminal all the time and I can't confirm your
experience

CAVEATS:

1) I don't know whether I'm using SSDM or SLIM. I just took the basic
desktop conf file when I installed

2) this is my video card

It happens randomly. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't

bug#23514: missing viewport declaration in the manual ?

2016-05-11 Thread Catonano
I was suggested to report this information here

The Guix manual is not readable on mobile phones. It seems to me that the
viewport declaration is missing

The effect is that you have to pinch and zoom and scroll all over in order
to read.

That is, it's substantially impossible to casually consult the manual on a
mobile phone.
