I wonder if there's any progress on it or some open issue that I may have
missed.
Currently, we can change the slur direction if possible or, most of times,
create the slur manually with control points, which is ok but it may break
if the horizontal space is stretched.
Can you open a feature request for this?

: 1) give us a graphic example; and 2) perhaps distill what you want from
the thread you mentioned (unless your question at the top of your text was
precisely what you want for the feature request).
