Just pushed a fix for the parenthesis engraver to staging. The chord
bracket stuff was already fixed shortly before:

 commit 4bdb9204b1b682b38bd76afc03e5d629621428f1

Should cherry-pick into translation, I think, so that this moves into
 2.18.1 as well.

Thanks David. No need for a tracker then.

seems to come from times when tweaks like \parenthesize only worked in
chords...

now the Parenthesis_engraver is included in the Score definition

is there a reason to keep this snippet or change it (suggestions?)

Re: Error in Documentation 1.4 Music representation?

2008-10-05 Thread Graham Percival
It's not a *chord*; it's just notes occuring simultaneously.
Err... that will make sense later, once you've read the tutorial.

Others: I detest LM 1.4. It always confuses people -- and worse,
it confuses the people who are seriously trying to understand
lilypond. People who just jump into the tutorial don't have this
problem.

AW: AW: Error in Documentation 1.4 Music representation?

2008-10-05 Thread Christian Keil
Ah, I forgot to mention -- I changed the wording in 2.11. Please

check the online docs for 2.11 and let me know if you can think of
 any improvement.

I see, I didn't check that. Definitely better. And nice layout!
I think it might still be confusing for somebody trying it out. Perhaps more so
for somebody reading the tutorial first because he knows the difference between
a chord and simultaneous notes. But I see the difficulty. You use `` ''
next to make an expression simultaneous to a single note.
Perhaps a footnote for somebody being confused, saying that this is actually a
chord or would be typeset in multiple staffs this way but is just used to
illustrate the concept here?

Cheers,
Christian

Using double brackets results in three staffs with the corresponding notes.

Try putting something up front, as in:

You have tripped up over one of those inconsistencies caused by automagic.
If you do not (yet) recognise such situations, Lilypond can be frustrating.

This case is mentioned at the start of Learning Manual 2.3.2.
