Licenses for software in GUB

2006-10-06 Thread Cameron Horsburgh
Hi folks,

lilypond --warranty tells me I should have received a copy of the GPL
(referred to in the file COPYING) with the binaries. However, I don't
seem to be able to find anything close to a license anywhere in
/usr/local/lilypond.

This probably needs to be fixed. As I understand it, if I were to host
the GUB as is on my website I'm violating the terms of the GPL.

On a related issue, how does the lack of accompanying licenses affect
the distribution of other software in the GUB, like Python (ok
AFAIK), the ps2whatever utilities, fonts and so on?

Or have I (like so many before me) completely misunderstood this whole
licensing thing?

Good point.

You would have to provide the source code and patches for all the
packages as well.

can you check out 2.9.23 ? It contains licenses for all included packages.

Looks good! I'll have a closer look at the weekend to see if
everything's there.

A minor nitpick: I did notice that there's no file called 'COPYING'
as referred to in the 'lilypond --warranty' invocation.
