Thank you for addressing this, yes, the problem still persists, Herei slatest
CVS (cvs up as of 2002-02-13) and compile results. I'm running the latest
W2k/Cygwin version

The config.log is identical as in my previous message. I did not change a bit,
just updated from CVS and ran "make". please let me know what information you
would need to help with this.

But, ehm, how is it useful? If one can supply any uid with any password... why
the effort?

i do have an A record for www.poorfolks.org in my nameservers zone.
i am not sure what to say except that i would like to use apache but it
still needs a little work. it appears that iexplore 5 or so looks in a
particular directory for the default page. it should not be too much trouble to
recode apache to use the same directorys that iis is using. try to upload apache
again when you have a work=around for this problem. if i can't see the homepage
locally i doubt if anyone on the internet can see it either. also i did a find
file on the system and never found httpd.conf so it still is a little premature
but would like to see it aboard nt/2000/2003. it is still possible however
to leave it on linux and just interface a linux with a ms computer on the
network.

My guess is for now: autoconf.

could you try newer autoconf and libtool? ISTR that there were problems with
older versions.

(I don't have a cygwin environment at the moment to test it myself, sorry!)

I'll try to have a closer look at the problem and the patch these days, but one
word anyway:

sending different headers for GET and HEAD is wrong. You should _not_ handle
both methods not differently. Just send the content regardless of the method.
Apache will do the right thing and discard the body if neccessary. But he's able
to maintain the Content-length header (or TRansfer-Encoding).

Thanks for looking at this!
While working on this issue I did figure out that suppressing the
content for the head method was wrong. I haven't gotten around to
changing the code yet, but I plan to. The original idea was to save
resources by not doing database calls if the content was going to
be thrown away anyway, but it turned out that keeps the head method
from being as useful as it should. I also got confused by this as
I was expecting the content-length to be zero since there was no
body, not realizing that a gzip'd version of an empty content takes
up 20 bytes.
Get requests do seem to be broken though. And since mod_deflate checks
to make sure it isn't run twice, I am pretty sure there is something
wrong where I have patched the code. (Especially since it fixes things
for me.) I am just not sure that the fix is really correct for all
cases.

It's extremely useful in a two-tiered authentication system. Let's say, for
instance, that you have a firewall. Further, that your business application
lives "inside" the firewall, while the authentication system is only operative
"outside" the firewall. Apache on the firewall machines can do authentication
just fine. Apache on the internal machine cannot. Instead, they have to
believe that anything that gets through has already been authenticated. This is
exactly what I use this for.

Well, I changed the fix by removing the domain guessing code entirely. Guessing
here seems totally bogus to me. (aside from the broken guessing code anyway).

The effect is then, if no AuthDigestDomain is specified, the domain attribute
will be omitted (which is the same as AuthDigestDomain /).

If nobody vetoes the change, it will hopefully be backported.

Thanks again.

I hope, you're checking the anon uids in any other way. Otherwise everybody
behind the firewall is granted access to the system...

I have, however, another security problems in my mind, because one can easily
compromise the log files (by using weird user ids). Hmm.

just as a side note.
there is a new apache2/sapi interface for php in the current CVS snapshot.

if you could try it with this it would be good.

use
--with-apxs2handler
instead of
--with-apxs

Thanks

It was already fixed in 1.3.25.
Note, that the development now happens in the 2.1 branch. 1.3 and 2.0 are mainly
in maintenance stage. That means, common changes normally apply to 2.1 and will
be backported then.

illegal memory reference on exit of Apache2.0.44/mod_ssl

Summary: illegal memory reference on exit of Apache2.0.44/mod_ssl
   Product: Apache httpd-2.0
   Version: 2.0.44
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows NT/2K
Status: NEW
  Severity: Major
  Priority: Other
 Component: mod_ssl
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Apache 2.0.44, Openssl 0.9.7, Zlib 1.1.4, compiled on VS.NET Enterprise, Win2K
SP3. Openssl compiled with MASM functions. Mod_deflate is not loaded.
Everything else is standard loaded, with mod_ssl loaded.

Everything works fine, if no HTTPS(:443) requests happen. After an HTTPS page
is loaded, if Apache is restared or stoped the following message will appear,
then Apache exits.

I have noticed, that if Loglevel, in httpd.conf, is at 'warn' or bellow, this
error apears. If loglevel is above 'warn', this error does NOT happen.

I have also reproduced this error with someone elses compiled code,
http://hunter.campbus.com/.

Apache.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x77f85c41" referenced memory at "0x0010". The memory
could not be "written".

To compile Apache win32, with mod_ssl, you will need the following tools: awk,
bison, flex, and sed. You can get these by d/l cygwin. You will need to
select the individual tools in different categories. I think two of them are
std, the other two you need to select. You will also need to delete awk, and
rename gawk to awk(the 1st one is a link that does not work under cmd.exe)

Hmm. I'd say, it's a configuration problem anyway. Does the problem still exist?

>From README.configure:

If you are not sure which directory layout you want, you can use the
--show-layout option. It displays the directory layout which would be used
but immediately exits without configuring anything.

Thanks for using Apache!
