If you would like to do this, patches are welcome. But, this is not trivial to
add nor easy.

The biggest problem is dealing with changes to the cache-related headers once
the headers are sent. In order to try to compute the most restrictive
combination, you have to run/buffer the entire request first. That's not
optimal from a performance standpoint and I believe might be worse than the
current situation.

I'm going to mark this as WONTFIX, but if you'd like to continue this
discussion, the proper place is on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list not the
issue database.

This looks like a system problem or something with your install of OpenSSL.

Perhaps OpenSSL was compiled against the Sun linker and your linker (GNU?)
doesn't like it. All libraries may need to be linked by the same linker.

Regardless, I don't have a problem with this setup. Marking as WORKSFORME.

I am happy to donate the ~$50 to get a certificate from e.g.
http://www.comodogroup.com/products/certificate_services/index.html

Where and how would I donate? (the support... link appears to be dead - see
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=17115). I see
http://www.apache.org/foundation/contributing.html#how-to-donate, but how would
I ensure that it is used for the very purpose of this bug/enhancement?
I could send the money to you personally through paypal or ask friend of mine at
Irvine to give it to you in cash?

Maybe you are right, it could be classified as an enhancement rather than a bug.

Sure, pgp signing parties are a good thing, but it is still more than
astonishing that Ben and Ralf (the mod_ssl key persons as mentioned in
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mod_ssl.html) never made it to one of those
and even yourself only got Aaron to sign your key.
AFAIK, out-of-band channels (e.g. calling Engelschall by phone in Munich) are
another legitimate option to establish trust.

I would even go one step further and suggest that in
http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/KEYS, out-of-band approaches should be
described just to verify the signers' fingerprints (with no expectation of
subsequent cross-signing) for arbitrary apache downloading users. Sure, you
might argue that you don't want to sit on the phone 7x24 repeating your
fingerprint, but I contend that security awareness and knowledge among users
unfortunately is such that the phone would only ring very rarely!
Even setting up an answering machine somewhere that just reads down the list of
PGP fingerprints is IMHO better than the status quo. Shall I open an new RFE for
this?

Hoping that all the above qualifies for a Reopen of this enhancement request.

Libtool syntax errors during shared module build

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-17 08:12 ---
Wow. This looks like a bug due to the machine that httpd-2.0.44 was rolled on.
As far as I can tell, the stock version of libtool-1.4.3 does not have these
lines.

The only fix I can suggest is to install autoconf and libtool 1.4.3 yourself
from the official GNU sources, and re-run buildconf. You may encounter a
problem where apr-util and pcre are not configured correctly due to a shell
limitation in Solaris (2.0.44 doesn't configure for me at all on my Solaris
machine). If that happens, you need the latest snapshot of APR and rerun
buildconf.

We will make sure this is resolved for the next release.

As a data point, the executable bit must be set on Unix-based platforms for
printenv to execute. So, it is disabled by default on Unix already. (Get a
nice 500 returned if people try to access it with a default install.)

So, this seems like it is a Win32-only installation issue. (I agree that Win32
should disable it, too.)

Possibly, also add a Preferred way to reach me out of band for public key
verification field per contributor. This especially applies to
http://httpd.apache.org/contributors/#wrowe and
http://httpd.apache.org/contributors/#striker, since they right now appear to
sign the most important part of the downloads...
Both apparently have unfortunately never been participants of the mentioned key
signing parties (or is just being with Justin already a party ? ;))

Hmpf. Well, this seems to be my fault. I rolled on Gentoo and they seem to
patch libtool in a way that it becomes non-portable. This one seems to be
the culprit:

  http://cvs.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/gentoo-x86/sys-
devel/libtool/files/1.4.3/libtool-1.4.2-portage.patch

Anyway, my lesson learned, I've installed a vanilla libtool in my roll sandbox
now. Sorry for the inconvenience. Next release we'll pay extra attention to
this.

Justin,

Thanks your quick response and the additional insight.

I am surprised that even in Apache.org Red Tape appears to have priority over
security (I am sure the authorities don't complain if you accept my money now
and do the paper-work/proper accounting end of year - maybe you want to set-up a
private project FundAdmin in this bugzilla and record such a todo in there -
see RFE http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=193658).

Anyway - the money is on the way to you.

The requested patch - is above. For it to make sense, please see
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=17119. I hope this would
be more professional and feasible than your 411-3am nightmare scenario.
Especially your institution Irvine could certainly agree that you answering
your office phone a few times a week to read a fingerprint is in line
with its (and your research grant's) mission.
Similarly, I would expect this to be acceptable for William's firm Covalent too.
I would be more than happy if it really turns out that Sanders is getting
inundated with such phone calls (then the world is better than I think it is).
If so, I am happy to sponsor him an extra phone line and an answering machine
for a year!

Rgds Ralf

As far as I know, that doesn't work if you use rotatelogs. I asked this
question numerous times on different newsgroup, but haven't found an answer yet.

If it was really that simple, it should be here: http://httpd.apache.org/docs-
2.0/logs.html . I know it was for 1.3 and if you where using regular logs, but
for rotated logs using rotatelogs, I never saw something like that.

BUT even if you could do it this way, it really SHOULD be an option for
rotatelogs. Most recent Linux-logrotate programs have this option too.

Thanx for confirming this. I do have libtool 1.4.3 installed from the
Sunfreeware site, so I'll go ahead and re-buildconf the apr stuff. Also noted
the build failures in the pcre directory and traced that down to missing
srcdir and builddir variable defines at the top of Makefile. They are need
later on in the make to find the included rules.mk file. I installed by hand
and got by this. Maybe your automake file here needs modification. Don't
know how to do that yet.

Anyway, I plan to add an argument virtual to the Action directive (in 2.1)
that allows to skip the file-exists-check. Actually the patch already exists on

Hi all,

I duno if it's realy related to mod_auth_ldap itself or not ...

Well, I use LDAP authentification to protect some pages, and I try to use
groups.So I use following line :

require group cn=my_group ...

The problem is :
- if I use 1 (or more) space b/w group and cn=, it's working.
- if I use a tab b/w group and cn=, the authentification always fails.

I have made some checks w/ require user with both separator, so it seems it's
only related to groups.

Bye

Aaron: 2) We should not imply to anyone that by downloading the KEYS
file from an SSL server that they can suddenly trust the
_contents_ of the KEYS file. Sure, they can better trust
that the contents weren't altered during transmission ...
It would be sad, if legitimate, but half-thought through legal questions result
in a service degradation.
Therefore I suggest to
1) Further add to the KEYS file:
On apache's own site and some mirrors, you can download the KEYS under https.
This reduces the exposure to some imaginable attacks, but this by no means
implies that this file is authentic.
For the proper way to determine whether you are satisfied with the KEYS'
authenticity, please consult http://www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual.html#AEN335
2) If you deem the provided as is part in http://www.apache.org/LICENSE.txt to
be insufficient protection for the foundation, perhaps it is time to add general
TermsConditions (e.g. as http://www.apache.org/foundation/T_and_C.html) to the
site every visitor/user has to abide by to remedy that.
If you want an example for such TCs, I am happy to provide one, but I am sure
you have the better lawyers than I do ...

Perhaps I should open two separate RFEs for 1) and 2)?

Almost all of the people listed in the KEYS file have established trust
relationships amongst each other. Therefore, you probably only need to find
one person from the KEYS file to trust, then the whole 'web of trust' thing
takes over. Preferably, you can find a person in your region to contact
face-to-face or via a cheap phone call.

1) If they have - why doesn't the KEYS file reflect that?
Are its keys out of date (or are you claiming that I am using a buggy version of
PGP ? It is freeware 7.0.3)
2) Most addresses/keys in KEYS do not define the geography the key owner lives
in - therefore, I do suggest that they give some hints how to do that in
contributors ...

In reality, I would suggest that the best way is to send email to the person
setting up an OOB conversation. We could make it a policy to reply to that
message signed with the respective key. That way you are sure that the person
who has the private key is responding to you with correct OOB details.

Chicken-and-egg on the trust, but I'd be loathe to publish my phone number on
the website.
While my office number is probably public knowledge, I never answer it anyway
(it's a party line shared with others). But, I'd be willing to give my cell
phone number if someone asked politely.

Look at the statistics as Justin claims that most of the people in this file
have attempted to sign each others' keys:

The total is 40 keys representing 32 unique individuals.

Aaron: 6 others have signed his key
Bjoern: 0 out 31 possible
Ben: 0 out of these 31 (with 3 unknown others)
Bill: 0
Brad: 0
Chuck: 0
Cliff: 1
Daniel: 0
Dean: 0
Dirk: 0
Doug: 0
Graham: 5
Greg A: 0
Greg S: 0
Ian: 0
Jim: 0
Justin: 1
Lars: 7
Marc: 0
Mark: 0
Martin: 0
Paul R: 0
Paul S: 0
Ralf: 0
Randy: 0
rbb: 0
Robert: 0
Ken: 2
Roy: 2
sameer: 0
Sander: 1
William: 0

I guess the numbers speak for themselves, but let me try some math here:
There are 25 mutual signatures (probably some unique pairs less if a-b is
assumed to equal b-a).
If I remember right, there are factorial 32 possible signature pairs, i.e.
2.6*10^35 ...
=== the text should probably say a few of the people have obtained a few
signatures from others...

Thanks, this looks like progress to me - how about changing this to
resolve-fixed or even better reopen.
Just because in other places, statistics have been run against my bug success
rate and I would hope you didn't think of this as a pure waste everybody's
time...
