While I tend to agree that ./configure could be better documented, and
especially useful would be a list of modules and their default on/off status, a
la 1.3, that's somewhat far away from the stated "bug" in the title. In addition
to which, configure *had* picked up a good deal of documentation since this bug
was last commented on. I'm going go close it, but encourage the various
commenters to open a new bug, if they desire, requesting specific additions to
the ./configure documentation.

   Summary: Windows XP SP2
   Product: Apache httpd-2.0
   Version: 2.0.52
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: P3
 Component: All
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Windows XP SP2 (Home Edition) has apparently broken the Apache Web Server
(amongst other things). The status monitor says that it is running but when I
try to view local Web pages, IE, Netscape, Mozilla all try to load the web
page but never do. I tried to disable the Microsoft Firewall but it does not
help.

The error.log has multiple entries in it like this:
"Sun Nov 21 18:39:43 2004] [error] (OS 10038)An operation was attempted on
something that is not a socket. : Child 1332: Encountered too many errors
accepting client connections. Possible causes: dynamic address renewal, or
incompatible VPN or firewall software. Try using the Win32DisableAcceptEx
directive."

without APR_DETACH expect that the thread_join will be called, so don't
close the handle in advance, if the thread has already finished.

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2004-11-22 14:38 ---
Building openssl is pretty far beyond the scope of the Apache httpd
documentation, but, then, I suppose most of this particular doc is likewise
beyond our stated scope. I've seen remarks a few places to the effect that this
doc is moderately out of date, and needs some significant updates for 2.x, but,
unfortunately, the number of people who can do this update is pretty small.

Your remark that a particular line makes the problems go away is only half
helpful. When, in the order of other commands, should that line be added? An
actual patch to the doc would be the most helpful, but just answering that one
question would be somewhat helpful to getting this problem resolved. Please look
at the latest version of this doc, and let us know if the instructions still
work for you.

Thanks.

Determining the creation time of a process would be a portability nightmare. I
really can't see what httpd behaviour it is desirable to change here. It's
generally desirable to do the do the kill(pid, 0) check at startup against the
old pid. And as Andrew says the general workaround is to put the pidfile
somewhere where your initscripts will delete it at boot. rc.sysinit deletes
/var/run/* with the Linux initscripts, for instance.

The server needs to be restarted for just about any change to take effect. It's
not clear that this is explicitly documented anywhere, and I'm not really sure
where that information should be placed where it would be effective. Any change
of configuration requires a server restart. This is not SSL specific. Perhaps an
entry in the FAQ is warranted? Thoughts?

The Order doc has been phrased a number of different ways, and has always
managed to be misinterpreted. So, yeah, I think that this is a problem. However,
I don't at all understand the description of the table. Can you please show an
example of the table?

I also rather disagree that the Order doc should not discuss orders. The doc
serves two purposes (ok, probably more, but at least two). The immediately
pragmatic "solve my problem now" role, and the more in depth "how does it work"
role. And it must do both, in order for the documentation to be comprehensive.

The basic semantics are as intended, though it would probably be preferable to
allow application/foo+xml content types in IncludesNoExec. I might even make
that mod.

Your report implies a valid suggestion for enhancement, but isn't really a bug
report. In future it might be preferable to raise this kind of issue in a user
support forum.

So, Minimum request is to permit application/foo+xml.
but I think this check is really unnecessary, and harmful.

Why it doesn't use mod_auth* to decide allow/deny(and use 'Options -ExecCGI' to
CGI...)
for virtual's Sub-requests, too?
