Rob. I wondered same thing for a few years and my best advice is forget
modification. I recently put my 7100 on a power / SWR meter I use with an
amplifier so i could see full power of the 7100 on a resonant antenna. I
got 105-110watt PEP readings. It's all about the antenna with that radio.
If your antenna tuner best match is 3:1, the radio will cut the ALC back to
save the radio and might only put out 65 watts. Instead, I would suggest
you reat Bob Nagy's webpage on the 7100 mic mods he performs in Hot Springs
Arkansas. Will save your radio from unnecessary mod and you can
improve your audit dramatically. It's still a good antenna match that makes
