I always use the Silver Orbz these days.

John-AB5SS just started using the Yokohama balloons.

So we’ve had really good success with both.

The wind patterns are extremely strange right now. 😊

We launched another package earlier this morning, and it danced circles all
over NW Houston today.

This is indeed VERY cool! I’m assuming that there is a high pressure over the
state that caused it to fly in that circle pattern… Or maybe it’s under control
of a sinister genius 😊

Don't pay too much attention to the altitude as it takes a few solid packets to
create the accurate altitude. It's still over 49k right now. Working well.

It’s still flying high.

Every now and then we get some inconsistent reporting, so we get some bad data
at times.

But yes, it’s still doing well.

Another in our group launched a balloon from the Johnson Space Center area
earlier this morning, that has been dong some crazy flight patterns, like the
one we launched Tuesday.

So plenty to watch for sure.

If you want to see ALL the ham radio balloons currently in the air, here’s a

Re: [BVARC] Soldering Rosin Core

2023-06-29 Thread Chuck via BVARC
The silver solder SN-96 is 96% Tin 4% Silver has higher melting point it is 430 Degrees, regular 60/40 solder has a melting point of 361 degrees.Using regular 60/40 solder is all you should need for ham radio work. I used to work for a company that made multi-pin connectors and did some Soldering using sn-96 because that connector was going down hole and would see high temperatures and high Pressure.  Chuck HaleKF5UXP From: John Davis via BVARCSent: Thursday, June 29, 2023 8:28 AMTo: BRAZOS VALLEY AMATEUR RADIO CLUBCc: John DavisSubject: Re: [BVARC] Soldering Rosin Core 60/40 Rosin core solder is the generally accepted solder.  Some solders are better than others which I assume has to do with the quality and quantity of rosin.  Do not use acid core solder.  I like some solder radio shack used to sell which also had some silver in it.  You can also buy some flux in liquid form which is a good supplement to the flux in the solder. On Wed, Jun 28, 2023 at 21:18 mark roman via BVARC wrote:  On Wed, Jun 28, 2023 at 9:14 PM John D via BVARC wrote:Am expanding my ham experiences into the soldering world and am unsure what type of solder to use? Re: [BVARC] Soldering Rosin Core

2023-06-29 Thread Mike Hardwick via BVARC
A couple of points:

Don’t use acid core.
60/40 or 63/37 are good ratios
You can even use the no lead solder
.4 to .8 mm for SMD
.8 mm and up for everything else

Some of the points are personal preference. Check the web. There is a ton of
info.

Mike Hardwick.
