[BVARC] K5CAM

2023-07-09 Thread John Denison via BVARC
I hadn't heard of Cameron Mitchell's passing until today when I looked
up his call sign on QRZ.COM, and then I looked at this month's news
letter for the article on his passing.

Cameron was a really great guy and was always helpful & willing to
answer questions about ham radio. In addition to the extensive list of
activities and clubs that Cameron participated in, he was also one of
our EMROG members in Fort Bend County, he was net control for many BVARC
Monday Night Public Service Nets, and he provided the ARRL Audio News
during the nets years ago. I always wondered how he managed to not
overheat his radio. 😉

If you ever look through the many photos on the BVARC web site, a large
number of those from years ago were taken by Cameron. Whether it was
Field Day, BVARC hamfests under various names, or any other BVARC
events, Cameron was sure to be there with his camera.

Thank you Cameron Mitchell for everything you have done for ham radio
and beyond.

I've never used Raspberry Pi before, so honestly I can't help you there.
I do use a Kantronics KPC3+ TNC which has digipeat capability though.

Re: [BVARC] Off Topic: Fun with low band

2023-07-09 Thread mike.williams shopjubilee.com via BVARC
Scanner Jack was a volunteer member with Ft. Bend County EOC and was recognized
a number of times for his contributions to the Radio Shack scanner books of
frequencies.

Once he complained of low signal strength from the Ft. Bend EOC repeater. We
investigated and learned his QTH was situated perfectly in the shadow of the
tower whereas the repeater antenna was mounted on the opposite side of the
tower from his QTH.

RIP Jack
